The SITES Platinum CityLife S.p.A in downtown Milan, Italy, offers one of the city's largest public green spaces and car-free zones. As Europe's first The Sustainable SITES Initiative project, the urban regeneration project's core focus is sustainability and accessible green space. "To achieve [our sustainability goals], we focused on both the energy and environmental performance of the buildings, but also on developing a resilient, inclusive and integrated community with a strong identity that can positively impact people's physical and psychological well-being," explains Andrea Cottone, sustainability manager at CityLife S.p.A Learn more in the latest from USGBC+. https://bit.ly/3VOrafk 📸: Alberto Fanelli

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Risk Management Center announced it will expand the use of nature-based solutions in its civil works projects. The Army Corps defines nature-based solutions as infrastructure that “uses, restores, or emulates natural ecological processes.” These solutions can be created through design, engineering, and construction that “act in concert with natural processes.” The Corps joins the GSA in prioritizing sustainable land design and development. In 2016, the GSA began requiring the SITES rating system at the Silver level for its capital construction program and currently operates several SITES-certified locations. https://bit.ly/3VwFEQG
