The fourth PICAIS Coffee Talk - a recurring networking event for Passau academics - took place on March 19 at the University of Passau (Universität Passau), during which the PICAIS Fellows provided interesting insights into their research work. The Fellows, Prof. Dr. Germano Glufke Reis (Host: Dr. Terese Venus), Dr. Gianluca Grimalda (Prof. Dr. Johann Graf Lambsdorff), Dr. Oxana Karnaukhova (Prof. Dr. Daniel Göler), and Prof. Dr. Christopher Sims (Prof. Dr. Karsten Fitz), presented their current projects to the researchers of the University of Passau. Two further fellows, Prof. Dr. Olena Melnykova-Kurhanova (Prof. Dr. Florian Töpfl) and Dr. Diana Mistreanu (Prof. Dr. Marina Ortrud Hertrampf), were also available for the subsequent discussion, having already presented their research projects in previous Coffee Talks. They all took advantage of this excellent opportunity to ask each other questions and engage in an interdisciplinary exchange. The lively participation once again underlined the purpose of the event to promote dialogue and work together. We would like to thank our fellows for their inspiring contributions and all those present who took part in this exchange. #CAS #centreforadvancedstudies #IAS #coffeetalk #networking #universitätpassau #scientist #interdisciplinary #exchange #PICAIS #international

Passau International Centre for Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies (PICAIS) reposted this
Does market integration make us more selfish? "If you asked that question people on the street, 99 per cent would say that markets make us more selfish. But in anthropology, many scholars say the opposite", says Dr Gianluca Grimalda, a social scientist, who studies the social impact of #ClimateChange through fieldwork in the island of Bougainville off the coast of #PapuaNewGuinea. Grimalda, who became known as the researcher who refuses to fly, continues his work as a fellow at our University's Passau International Centre for Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies (PICAIS). During his six-months research stay in Passau, Dr Grimalda, with the help of Dr Katharina Werner, will analyse the data that he collected during his field studies. #Sustainability #UniversityofPassau #PICAIS #InternationalGuests Find out more about his studies in this interview:
