In the quest to harmonize the principles of Civil Law and Common Law, DIS40 recently co-hosted an enlightening event alongside HK45. The occasion was marked by a thought-provoking panel discussion titled "The Civil Law - Common Law Gap," which brought together legal minds from diverse backgrounds. The panel boasted the expertise of Stuti Gadodia, Tobias A. Strecker, Vee Vian Thien, and Sebastian Coulon Bauer, whose insights were seamlessly woven together by the adept moderation of Sarah Lemoine and Tom Christopher Pröstler. As the panel delved into the intricacies of legal practices such as cross-examination, expert hot tubbing, and the promotion of settlement through the Tribunal, attendees were treated not only to a feast for the mind but also to a literal one. Post-discussion, any lingering debates were sweetly resolved as participants indulged in a variety of ice cream flavors while enjoying the panoramic views from our new rooftop terrace in Frankfurt. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Lisa Reiser and Markus Altenkirch for their gracious hospitality at Baker McKenzie, which provided the perfect backdrop for this memorable gathering. The event underscored the importance of dialogue and the shared pursuit of legal understanding across different systems, all in the convivial spirit that DIS40 embodies. #DIS40 #HK45 #LegalHarmony #CivilLaw #CommonLaw #LegalEvent #Frankfurt #IceCreamDiplomacy

#CCC24 was inspiring. The welcome reception at CCC24 commenced with Professor Dr. Maxi Scherer’s captivating keynote on “𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐫𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧” 🔎 She skilfully transported us back to the inaugural CCC Global Conference in 2014 on “Cultural Differences in International Arbitration” organised by her, Anna Masser, Dr. Simon Manner, Rouven F. Bodenheimer and David Quinke. Professor Dr. Maxi Scherer deftly compared the agendas of both conferences, shedding light on remarkable developments. While the initial gathering asked whether there was a need for greater diversity in international arbitration, it’s heartening to see that this goal has since gained traction. However, true representation remains far from accomplished. In retrospect, other topics discussed at the 2014 CCC conference seemed as futuristic as climate change, deep-sea mining, and crypto arbitration do today. Remarkably, many of these once-novel subjects are now integral to international arbitration practice. 🆕 Drawing from her insights, Professor Dr. Maxi Scherer made a compelling prediction: As regulatory and technical complexities mount, we’ll witness an influx of lawyers into C-level management positions within companies. Kudos to Prof. Dr. Maxi Scherer for sharing these insightful retrospectives and thought-provoking forecasts with us at #CCC24! 🙌 The #CCC24 was kindly sponsored by: Platinum Sponsors: A&O Shearman, PwC, AlixPartners, MANNER SPANGENBERG Partnerschaft von Rechtsanwälten mbB, Accuracy & Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer Gold Sponsors: CMS Germany, Aurelius Cotta & Schellenberg Wittmer Silver Sponsors: Patocchi & Marzolini, Borris Hennecke Kneisel, Alvarez & Marsal, Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP & Busse Disputes The DIS40 Co-Chairs: Alessandro Covi, Christoph Gramlich, Dr. Nadja Harraschain, Evgenia Peiffer and Dr. Christian Steger And CCC24 co-organizers: Elizabeth Hincapié Hincapié, LLM, Dr Christiane Lenz, Dr. Henriette Sigmund, and David Tebel
