Zambia's Radio Waves of Transformation: Hear the Stories, Feel the Impact!

In Zambia, Agness and Bupe challenged deep-rooted norms. Their back-to-back pregnancies were influenced by a lack of understanding about contraception and the belief that men should keep their wives pregnant to deter other suitors. But in 2019, Agness began listening to Kwishilya ("Over the Horizon"), a radio series that would change their lives.

"Listening to the show together made it easier to talk about family planning," Agness said. "Kwishilya provided the information we needed."

Jonas Chindamba, another Kwishilya listener, walked 104 miles over four days through a wildlife-filled park, including lions, elephants, and black rhinos, to collect a Kwishilya T-shirt. His journey and commitment to Kwishilya highlights how the show is more than entertainment—it's making a real impact.

These stories prove that knowledge and empowerment can change lives, even in the face of tradition. Together, we can continue to inspire change in Zambia and beyond.

In celebration of World Contraception Day tomorrow, we're elated to share some impactful news from our collaboration in Mexico. PMC's award winning show motivated a staggering 2,868 callers every week to MEXFAM’s reproductive health hotline (Mexico’s Planned Parenthood affiliate). This was just one of the success stories of Vencer el Miedo ("Overcome the Fear").

Voluntary family planning and the utilization of modern contraceptives are transformative for both individuals, families, and broader communities. Contraception empowers individuals and couples to anticipate and achieve their desired number of children, spaciously time their births, and bolster the health and well-being of both those giving birth and newborns. The beauty of family planning extends beyond just individual choices—it paints a brighter future for families, children, and communities. Join us at PMC in celebrating and advocating for continued advancements in reproductive health this World Contraception Day.
