Reflecting on Black History Month

Reflecting on Black History Month

Diversity, equity, and inclusion are at the core of our values. This Black History Month, our BE BEST Employee Resource Group (ERG) focused on honoring and commemorating the rich history, achievements, and resilience of the Black community. Throughout the month, our team members came together for a series of engaging and impactful events that fostered connection, learning, and empowerment.

To set the tone for Black History Month, BE BEST organized a virtual Black History Month scavenger hunt. This event was more than just a quest for clues; it was an opportunity for team members to connect, have fun, decompress, and test their abilities. Groups collaborated and competed the hunt in a friendly atmosphere, reinforcing the importance of teamwork and camaraderie.

As we neared the end of the month, our team members gathered for a memorable Fireside Chat. A captivating conversation on “The Power of Resilience: Navigating the Corporate World as a Black Person.” The event featured our very own Stephen Ovadje, Head of Installment Lending and BE BEST Executive Sponsor, and esteemed guest speaker, David Brown Jr. David is a thought leader who has over ten years of experience as a senior leader in companies across the financial services, professional services, and facilities management industries.

The discussion delved into the theme of being authentically oneself under all circumstances, navigating one's career journey, and the invaluable role of mentorship. It provided an inspirational and insightful look into the value of different perspectives and shed light on the struggles that extend beyond the workplace while highlighting the transformative power of learning from life experiences. David graciously shared insights from his journey as a Black professional, navigating his career path while representing the Black community.

Black History Month was not just about having fun; it was about learning, growing, and incorporating newfound knowledge to shape our future. The events allowed us to tap into the wisdom of those who have walked similar paths before us, offering guidance and advice that resonated with our team members in their current roles.

This month-long celebration emphasized the importance of diversity in our workplace and recognized the unique contributions of the Black community to our collective success. By coming together, sharing experiences, and celebrating achievements, we strengthen the fabric of our organization and empower each team member to bring their authentic selves to work.

Here's to a future filled with continued growth, understanding, and celebration of the diverse tapestry that makes us who we are.
