The Recruiter's Outlook (February 2021)

The Recruiter's Outlook (February 2021)

The demand for top talent in renewable energy is fierce! And the shortage of talent is real. We are currently experiencing a level of demand for service that I have not yet witnessed at EnergeiaWorks. But it closely aligns to the supply-and-demand shortages that I witnessed during the dotcom bubble in my early days of recruiting. With one month to go in the quarter, we've already broken a quarterly record for revenue and new business proposals. The onboarding of new customers is our revenue for Q2 and Q3, so this shows some more certainty in EnergeiaWorks having a banner year.

How can the industry sustain this level of job growth?

Industry confidence is at the forefront of this growth across distributed and utility-scale solar, onshore and offshore wind, and energy storage. The amount of hiring we are supporting in development, finance, and engineering alone with our developer, IPP, and private equity customers will keep the EPCs busy for years to come!

We recruit. You retain.

Our job is to source talent and provide candidates to the industry to support growth, but we can't control retention. We do try to support both job requirements and cultural alignment to help with employee retention, but this job is on the employer.

What are you doing for employee retention?

If your answer is "nothing, or, not sure," then you are losing talent to your competitors. Mentor, train, educate, and, frankly, treat your team with decency so they want to work for you. Seems basic, right? You'd be surprised how many employers get this wrong. Because this is so important in an industry flourishing with job growth, I'm assigning you homework to put some initiatives in place to help with retention of your current team. You will thank me later when you spend less time and money on replacing your staff.

What's a birthday celebration without gifts?!

Thank you all for the kind notes last month about our 10-year anniversary. To celebrate (and to thank you!), we're giving away 10 EnergeiaWorks solar backpacks over the next 10 months. Keep an eye on our upcoming emails and social media channels for your chance to win each month.

Congratulations, Adil!

EnergeiaWorks is proud to announce February's backpack winner. We used a random number generator to pick the winner from all the likes on our featured LinkedIn post. And the winner of the second Birksun Solar Backpack is... Adil Ashfaq! Congratulations, Adil. Thank you all for participating in February's giveaway - our March giveaway starts TODAY, click here and answer at least one of the three questions and automatically be entered! The winner, along with their answer, will be announced in our March newsletter. Good luck!

Of course, I will continue to monitor the employment market in clean energy and report more industry data each month.
