7 Things That Could Happen TODAY As A Result of #MeToo #TimesUp Golden Globe Protest

Businesses everywhere and Corporate America in particular need to “LEGAL-UP” their Corporate Counsel TODAY because individuals, who have been harassed, bullied or black balled in the workplace woke up this morning “WOKE” and empowered.

In case you missed it this year's Golden Globe Award ceremony was one of the most political yet.  A-list actresses wore black in support of the #MeToo #TimesUp campaign.  #MeToo founder Tarana Burke, started the hashtag campaign which exposed the scale of sexual harassment against women worldwide.  #TimesUp is a unified call for change from women in entertainment who say “The clock has run out on sexual assault, harassment and inequality in the workplace. It's time to do something about it.”

BE READY TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. Hello Human Resources, Diversity & Inclusion, Corporate Counsel and C-Suite. Beware women TODAY are empowered to speak up and share their personal stories as a result of this movement.

Oprah Winfrey was at the center of the Awards ceremony and further amplified the message “For too long women have not been heard or believed. A new day is on the horizon.”

So what’s the potential implications from Golden Globe #MeToo #Times Up Protest.

1.    An employee walks in to Human Resources today and reports he/she was sexually assaulted or harassed while on the job.

2.    An employee walks in to the job today and reports he/she was sexually harassed and Human Resources made the choice to do nothing about it.

3.    An employee files a sexual harassment lawsuit today and you get the call from the Attorney (or worse there is a class action law suit).

4.    An employee who was an eyewitness to sexual harassment walks in to report they ‘saw something” and they were threatened to keep quiet so they did out of fear they loose their job.

5.    An employee (or friend, family member) sells their story of sexual harassment to the media.

6.    A disgruntle employee is talking on Social Media about their Employer is not taking action on reported sexual harassment claims.

7.    An employee who has sexually harassed another employee comes forward to confess.  (Doubt it ...but possible.)

Human Resources, Diversity & Inclusion, Corporation Counsel, C-Suite… Are you ready?  If not, get ready to do something. Talking about this won’t be enough to protect your job, your bottom line or your stock value. DON’T GO BACK TO BUSINESS AS USUAL TODAY. Make this a priority to resolve and consult with experts in Diversity & Inclusion.
