In today's Ellevate Network's Mobilize Women 👩🏾Summit 2024 on the topic of Harnessing Women's Economic Power, the recent ruling (https://lnkd.in/gPbiq5wP) against the Fearless Fund was discussed. Championing The Fearless Fund and the Legacy of Generational Wealth The recent court ruling regarding the Fearless Fund is more than just a legal setback; it's a reminder of the ongoing struggle for equality in the entrepreneurial landscape. The Fearless Fund has been a beacon of hope and support for minority women-owned businesses, providing capital and the promise of generational wealth and security. Generational wealth is not merely about financial prosperity; it's about creating a legacy that transcends time, offering stability and opportunities for future generations. The Fearless Fund's commitment to fostering this wealth among African American women entrepreneurs is a testament to their vision of a more equitable future. Despite the challenges, the importance of organizations like the Fearless Fund cannot be overstated. They are the architects of a future where generational wealth is accessible to all, ensuring that the next generation inherits a foundation of financial security and empowerment. As we stand in support of the Fearless Fund, let's reaffirm our commitment to building a world where every entrepreneur has the chance to create a lasting legacy. Let's continue to fight for a society where generational wealth is not a privilege but a right for all. #GenerationalWealth #FinancialSecurity #WomenInBusiness #LegacyBuilding

As CEO of Bonsai Leadership Group, I help nonprofit organizations recruit and retain talented professionals. Author, "When Black Women Rise." 🌳

Fearless Fund invests in Black women entrepreneurs. Women like me.  Black women, who received less than 1% of the $215 billion in venture capital funding last year. Black women, who face a 3x higher rejection rate when applying for funding vs. white business owners. As an appeals court struck down their grantmaking program this week, CEO and Founder of Fearless Fund Arian Simone responded, “The message these judges sent today is that diversity in Corporate America, education, or anywhere else should not exist." This reminds me of reaching out to a white woman about a nonprofit executive job that I thought she may be qualified for. (We proactively reach out to folks every day through our recruiting work at Bonsai Leadership Group LLC.) She was surprised, because she thought I only recruit BIPOC folks into these positions. I am sure others wonder the same thing … and that a few wonder if our work is “reverse discrimination.” 🙄 First, I don't hire anyone so I can't put people into these positions. What I do is ensure that my nonprofit clients have a diverse candidate pool of talent to choose from when they are making their hiring decisions. Nonprofits and other executive recruiters tend to have 3 white males and 2 white women in their top 5 candidate pool. I am going to do my best to make sure the top candidate pool is at least 50% BIPOC to reflect the demographics of our country and the communities our clients serve. So yes, I still want her, as a white woman, to be considered for this position because I want my clients to choose from the best talent. But, she will be considered among a racially diverse pool of top candidates. At the end of the day, the organization is going to hire the person they think will be most successful in the role. And at the end of the day, our work - and programs like the Fearless Fund - are trying to fix the systemic inequities baked into our systems … so that everyone benefits.
