Daniel Libeskind, a renowned Polish-American architect famously known for designing the Jewish Museum in Berlin, emphasizes that even though a building is finished, it becomes part of a new dynamic: how people will occupy it, use it, and think about it. Libeskind, born in 1946 in Łódź, Poland, is also celebrated for his master plan to reconstruct the World Trade Center site in New York. His architectural approach often incorporates elements of history, memory, and symbolism, making his designs both thought-provoking and emotionally resonant. 📌 German-born American #architect Mies van der Rohe wants to reflect the close connection between the #architectural designs of a particular era and the societal, cultural, and technological values of that particular era. 📌 In essence, this quote serves as a reminder that #architecture is more than just the creation of practical spaces; it also involves capturing the spirit and soul of a specific historical period. It is a reflection of the goals, culture, principles, and technological prowess of the society of that time. #architecturequotes #inspiringquotes #architect

'Unorthodox' Associate at Architype, passionate to drive urgent systemic change within the Built Environment
Such true words and sentiment on the topic of Building Performance Evaluation - thanks Bill Bordass and the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI). Some punch quotes, especially: "One also needed a good flight plan, take-off, descent, and in level flight, to ensure that outcomes were not hi-jacked, for example, by a myopic value engineer" ! It would be interesting to quantify how much BPE happens nationally, and to what level of detail... and also to share and celebrate the quantitative benefits that BPE have rewarded, to help incentivise its deployment on other projects where costs are seen to be the barrier.
A big thank you to Bill Bordass and Adrian Leaman for their insightful article in this month's issue of Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI) Architecture Ireland magazine. Titled "Post Occupancy Evaluation- from post-mortem to life support", Bill and Adrian discuss the disassociated nature of POE in the present climate and advocate for a #buildingperformance evaluation (BPE) approach to "capture insights, motivate and inform continuous improvement". If we want our buildings to meet a #DesignforPerformance standard, we need further industry discussion around this topic. Its an important read! #riaiclimatechallenge2030 #poe https://lnkd.in/gJmmyUSz

If we don't understand how buildings perform, in terms of energy and usability, how can we really know how we should be building in the first place? This is great article from Bill Bordass and Adrian Leaman (via Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI)).

Post-occupancy evaluation is crucial - and not just for energy and carbon performance. The measure of any project can only effectively begin once it is in use

The ACE Climate Change exhibition continues its tour arounds Europe! ↘ "20 architectural projects against #climatechange" I Lithuania With the support of the European Union's Creative Europe programme and the Lithuanian Architects' Union, the Architects' Council of Europe presented its exhibition in Kaunas, Lithuania, with 20 European architectural projects remarkable by their responsible and innovative ways of planning and building. #Architecture is a powerful source of solutions to challenges posed by climate change, in the medium-term and at low-cost.As demonstrated by the 20 projects featured in the ACE exhibition , it is possible to design urban spaces that are capable of dealing with extreme weather conditions, while at the same time adding new qualities to the urban space; and to design low-carbon buildings while increasing occupants’ comfort and well-being. ↘ Since it opened in spring, between 5,000 and 6,000 people have already visited the exhibition. If you are in Lithuania, don't miss the ACE Climate Change exhibition. https://lnkd.in/eBhTgfUV Lietuvos kraštovaizdžio architektų sąjunga Linas Tuleikis Ruta Leitanaite

BEHIND THE FORMS X SPATIAL METAPHOR Curators | Guoqing Yi, Jiaxun Xu @jiaxunxu_ Date | 09/18 - 10/20 2023 Venue | North Gallery @northgalleryscut, Building No.27, North Campus of SCUT, 381 Wushan Road, Tianhe District, Guangzhou Organizer | School of Architecture, South China University of Technology Co-Organizer | JXY Studio Part I | SPATIAL Part II | METAPHOR The exhibition presents a variety of investigative explorations that attempt to elucidate the duality of architecture from different angles. These open examples particularly focus on the broader and more diverse spatiality within architecture, taking architecture as the basis while not limited to it, generating forms while not constraining them, which attempt to propose possible methods, modes, and perspectives of thinking. Such creative explorations emphasizing spatiality without relying on materiality are aimed at unfolding the logical dimensions. #JXYStudio #culture #art #architecture #exhibition https://lnkd.in/ebWHEz2R
