For my second entry in Center Field's "Beyond the Lines" column, I spoke with Keith Detelj about his time as one of the most successful athletes to ever play at Marist College. During his time at the College, Detelj set men's soccer records for goals scored and points, while simultaneously starring on the men's lacrosse team. Now, he has returned to Marist as the head coach of the women's lacrosse team, giving him the chance to make his mark on a third Marist team. Check out the column below! #journalism #sportsjournalism #sportsmedia

I didn't make the lacrosse team. Seventh grade was a tough year and to top that, I got cut from lacrosse tryouts. I was so beat up about it because I felt like lacrosse was the first sport I really enjoyed playing... But now, I own a company founded on the principles I learned playing varsity lacrosse in high school. So how did we get from getting cut to playing varsity, to now owning a company? Perseverance. There were a lot of missteps, mistakes, and even exciting moments in between, but my biggest takeaway from my journey so far is that the ability to "keep showing up" will take you further than you ever imagined. #athletepipeline #marketingagency #femalefounder

Records are meant to be celebrated! The NCAA women’s volleyball championships were in Tampa last weekend and they did NOT disappoint. The virtually sold out crowd of 19,727 set the record of for indoor attendance at an NCAA women’s game. The spirited and passionate crowd, akin to a men’s college basketball rival matchup, traveled from the Midwest and South to chant and rally their cheers on finalists Nebraska and Texas. Spoiler alert: Texas repeated as NCAA champs. And the reason is pretty simple. Look, I went with my son who loves college volleyball. He’s been telling me how exciting Penn State men’s and women’s (BOTH) college volleyball is for 2 years. He loves the action, the athleticism and fast pace of the game. I had no idea of the fandom and followers. The rival bands played, the cheerleaders cheered, and the fans roared. The Nebraska Cornhuskers were favored but the Texas Longhorns dominated. Every point was a nailbiter. That Longhorn team executed a well crafted strategy that reminded me of the best leadership lessons and the assembly of a great team. Their formula was simple: 1. Assemble a team of the best experts 2. Create a plan to dominate and win 3. Execute cleanly and consistently with teamwork 4. Communicate well and Work for every point 5. Keep the members of the team positive even in the face of Adversity 6. Recover quickly from mistakes 7. Create unwavering fans 8. Have fun doing 1-7 And that’s why they are back to back champs. In front of a record setting amazing crowd. Me: Volleyball rocks! My son: I told you! #champions #winningstrategy #settingrecords #supportwomenssports

Two decades in the sports, trading card and memorabilia worlds & in search of my next opportunity. Experience in research, writing, proofreading, marketing, card & memorabilia sales. Let's talk & see how I may help you!
Hey, hey, hey! My latest Lacrosse Card Culture article talks about the 1993 STX MILL set. For those #basketball collectors out there, I consider this set to be the lacrosse equivalent of 1986 Fleer. Both sets are dense with important rookie cards and have red, white and blue borders that broadcast even the smallest flaw like a beacon. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, both sets contain #GOAT rookie cards. 1986 Fleer has Michael Jordan, while 1993 STX has Gary Gait. Both are ground-breaking sets that are cornerstones for collectors of their respective sports. https://lnkd.in/ghxx4Juc
