Today is a massive day for us.  Trashie and Walmart have come together for Earth Month to offer Walmart + members exclusive access to a free small Take Back Bag that they can fill with all of their unwanted clothing. Members return their TBB to us for recycling in exchange for $10 in TrashieCash, redeemable for a $10 Walmart gift card.  I’m very proud to say that this offer sold out today in 5 hours. I’ve been working in sustainability for 15 years. For the first time, I can say with confidence that we are, in 2024, finally at an inflection point where sustainability can be an accessible norm rather than an exclusive exception. Many of us know the contrast between the wish and the reality. We say we want a better system, but in practice sustainability is adopted by a small community of vigilant folks who are willing to go the extra mile, are willing to pay more, or are willing to compromise. Today is different.   With this partnership, we have the opportunity to change a core behavior for millions of people.  We can stop textiles from going into the trash because we have made recycling easy, rewarding, and very importantly, fun. We also make it simpler and more profitable for a retailer the size of Walmart to engage in circularity at scale. That’s a big win. We aren’t going to fix the ENTIRE consumer industry with one launch, but we are chipping away at it one Take Back Bag at a time. We are grateful for the opportunity to present our solution to such an important consumer segment at one of the most influential merchants in the world (Walmart, obvi.) We can’t wait to continue the momentum and growth. Look out for our full suite of Take Back Bags at Walmart.com and for news as Trashie continues to grow and engage the consumer industry in the change we need to see.
