I’m curious the value of diverting items from charities who support local social programs that actually help people. Also, where does the $20 per bag revenue go?

What exactly happens to the clothing/fabric? It is up cycled, recycled into new yarns? shredded and used for something else?

Julie Rader this sounds good in theory, but as I walk myself backwards in the process, this doesn’t make sense. Circularity is an economic model based on the principle’s of reduce, reuse, recycle. How will Walmart be making decisions to reduce their footprint and production of mass clothing? What design theories will they implement to ensure end of life measures? What scheme will they deploy to encourage reuse and will the quality of their clothing survive a secondary market? How do they plan to recycle all the clothing, and where exactly will millions of of textiles go besides the eventual death at a landfill? Are Walmart clothing regenerative in nature? I would use caution when advocating or selling circularity. The take back bag, is one single step that is good in theory, but unless one can take responsibility for the whole cycle from cradle to grave- it’s not much more then an attempt at jumping on the sustainability trend. We can do better. #circularity #sustainablefashion #fastfashion

I’ve been using Trashie to declutter fabric scraps and textile items that I can’t upcycle (or aren’t suitable for turning into cleaning rags). I have a bag in the laundry room for easy sorting, and it’s been a game changer. It’s cool to see the company’s partnership expansion.

Great first steps to get circularity started. Hope this is just the beginning of a whole new way of thinking ! Go walmart!

I have serious doubts that Walmart customers who are struggling to buy groceries will pay $20 to throw away clothes

Julie, thanks for sharing! What a cool and impactful thing Walmart is doing. What will they do with the clothes that they get back?
