Such a fantastic evening...my legs ache this morning but it's quite something to see so many people coming together to raise funds for free legal advice. Free legal advice is crucial - nearly 90% of UK residents don't have access to a local legal aid provider, and funding has reduced by 40%. So many people are unable to access justice when they need it most. Our pro bono partners Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP, Ashurst, A&O Shearman, Herbert Smith Freehills do a phenomenal job supporting our community to access housing, employment, immigration, consumer and family legal advice. Thank you for all you do! I'm really proud to have been part of last night's walk...even if I might need a nap today!
Fantastic to join the Toynbee Hall team for the 20th Annual London Legal Walk, covering 10k across the city. This event is crucial in raising funds and awareness for free legal advice services that are desperately needed, especially during these challenging times. We walked alongside our partners from Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP who have been steadfast supporters of our monthly women’s-only clinic, providing invaluable legal assistance to women who often have nowhere else to turn. For those who may be unfamiliar, the London Legal Walk, organised by the London Legal Support Trust, is a cornerstone event for the legal community, bringing together thousands to support free legal advice centres. Over the past two decades, this walk has raised over £10.5 million, which has helped hundreds of thousands of people access justice. Toynbee Hall’s Free Legal Advice Clinics, which have been running for 125 years, offer free, high-quality legal advice on a range of issues from housing to employment. We must also highlight the incredible work of our other partners. Allen & Overy support our monthly employment clinic, while Herbert Smith Freehills partner with us for our weekly housing clinic. Their contributions are vital in extending our reach and ensuring that we can provide comprehensive legal support across various needs. Supporting these services is more important than ever.
