With approximately 20% of people in the UK’s creative industry fitting into the dyslexic spectrum ( of which I am one). It’s crucial to highlight the unique strengths and perspectives that neurodivergent individuals bring to the table.
Being an atypical dyslexic, I think laterally in a major way and have taken a non-linear career path (a very dyslexic trait), always moving toward what challenges and excites my mind.
Yes, I’m a fan of Eddie Izzard. I used to learn his routines and pass them off as my own as a kid. But it’s more than just admiration. His determination and ability to push through challenges are incredibly familiar. I often need to put in extra effort on tasks many find easy, while the difficult stuff comes naturally to me.
My dyslexia (and ADHD) are a superpowers and it was inspiring to see these underrepresented topics discussed at an event like MAD//FEST
