Never have I ever 👀 Been to a bigger conference than #SHRM24. Just returned from this massive conference -- AI was a dominant theme, yet discussions on topics close to my heart stood out: 👉 Skills-based retention: Tara Noonan Amaral emphasized the critical role of HR in recruiting, highlighting that employees investing in their own skilling will seek opportunities elsewhere. Job-relevant training is something employees and particularly new hires will be seeking beyond vanity L&D commentary. 💪 Skills-based hiring: Met the OneTen team (Jill Sterling Byron L. Ward Debbie Dyson), reinforcing the shift towards prioritizing skills over degrees in job descriptions, a change all HR tech platforms must champion. 🤸♀️ Non-traditional talent: This session with Jeffrey Moss Phil Haig Brawnski Armstrong Jennifer Carlson (She/Her) & Desiree Johnson arguably had one of the most progressive topics yet the room was not even half full. Non-traditional talent must become a standard channel for the early career talent portfolio in the US. It is disruptive and different but the ROI is high – offering employers a try-before-you buy confidence, building a more loyal talent base, creating more expansive diversity of thought and lowering the costs of university recruiting.
