3 months ago we bought our 7 year son “Chicago” Joe a new bicycle/tricycle. I wasn’t sure if Joe was strong enough to operate it. Joe had open heart surgery 2 years ago and wears legs braces but I wanted to set a goal for Joe to ride to school on Day 1. We started training building strength riding around our neighborhood, then with some extra “weight” in his basket to build confidence he could do this with his backpack in tow. Well, today Chicago Joe accomplished his goal! He rode to school by himself - backpack and all. I am so proud of him! #Goals

Love that story and encourage that sense of freedom and independence your'e giving him. if you don't mind a suggestion for you from an ex-crime prevention person, make sure he gets a lock for that trike when he parks it at school or anywhere. This will prevent somebody from stealing it, which would break his heart/confidence by taking away his sense of freedom. It has happened to others in the past and is beyond sad.. Also would suggest you have your phone number/name engraved on the bike somewhere inconspicuously to aid in recovery, check with your local police departments, (non emergency business line), crime prevention community service officer, they would love to help you in a case like this. They may even encourage a tour of the station and your son might like that, helps to have friends in public safety looking out for someone special like this.

Beautiful! Here’s mine. After many decades of not riding due to balance issues, I put aside my “what will people think?” And chose to live my best life within my limits. Within actually allows us to push them and reach new limits. Enjoy the new found strength & freedom!
