This summer we're recommending books that are all by female authors. Why? Well, research by Mary Ann Sieghart for her book The Authority Gap, shows men are reluctant to read female authors – and this has real world implications. For the top 10 bestselling female authors (in the UK) only 19 percent of their readers were men. Why does this matter? 'If men don’t read books by and about women, they will fail to understand our psyches and our lived experience. They will continue to see the world through an almost entirely male lens, with the male experience as the default.' Mary So, let's all pick up more books by female authors this summer....
