For an organization focused on sustainable growth, a Business Development team focused solely on capturing opportunities can be invaluable in the org structure. These teams are typically smaller than Sales teams. They are not prospecting for new clients/customers or following up on leads. They are hyper focused on capturing existing opportunities and creating new opportunities. Similarly to Sales teams, they are closers. But prioritizing client objectives is the most important piece in the list below. Prioritizing client objectives is NOT: 😡 Creating more problems in order to increase billable hours. 😡 Providing solutions that are advantageous at present but risk the client ending up in court sometime down the road. 😡 Locking up solutions so the client “needs” the firm (or the vendor) to use said solutions. The stories (public and hushed) circling in the business world about the above are becoming more and more frequent. Prioritizing client objectives means just that. Client objectives (short and long term) come first.
