👀 Recently, I found business inspiration in an unexpected source: a Korean Drama. Stick with me for a moment as I explain 🤭
Spoiler alert: While watching ‘The Midnight Romance in Hagwon,’ I saw a powerful lesson unfold. In one episode, a tutoring academy tried to get ahead of its competitor by offering a free lecture featuring both a new teacher and a seasoned one. However, their competitor did the same at the last minute, resulting in only one student attending each session.
Despite the low turnout, both tutors delivered their lectures with genuine dedication. The student was so impressed they decided to switch academies and shared their positive experience with friends. The student was impressed by the personalisation and enthusiasm.
This episode reminded me of the importance of appreciating that every single interaction counts!
Of course, they didn’t eliminate their group sessions, but it made me think about the ways I’m showing up and how I’m building The Barefoot Planter with a focus on differentiation.
My experience with social anxiety in crowded dining spaces drives me to prioritise accessibility and inclusion at The Barefoot Planter events.
Here are some of our top priorities as we scale:
- One-to-one food growing sessions (coming soon)
- Child-friendly, family-friendly + elderly-friendly events
- Smaller group gatherings (max 16)
- 70% to 80% non-alcoholic events
- Majority vegan, plant-based, and vegetarian menus for all occasions—celebrating seasonal and locally sourced produce
- Zero-waste menus
-Eco-friendly packaging/products from partners/suppliers
- Collaborating with other community groups
- Supporting and championing individuals and groups across various categories of intersecting identities (from race, sexual orientation, religion, socio-economic class, disability to neurodiversity (and more))
- Sticking to value-aligned partnerships by doing research about brands and their policies/values/commitments
For larger groups over 16 people, comfortable, inclusive and accessible spaces will be a top priority. We also place a heavy focus on sustainable practices to ensure our impact on the environment is positive and lasting.
