I AM SO GRATEFUL TO THOSE WHO STAND AND HAVE STOOD READY TO PROTECT WHAT I SO OFTEN TAKE FOR GRANTED.
I was looking for the right words to show my thanks to our American Heroes when I happened upon the end of a Toby Keith concert from several years ago when he was finishing his tribute song, American Soldier. You can hear his message to our Armed Forces in the video.
This is the last stanza of his song:
You can bet that I stand ready when the wolf growls at the door
Hey, I'm solid, hey I'm steady, hey I'm true down to the core
And I will always do my duty, no matter what the price
I've counted up the cost, I know the sacrifice
Oh, and I don't want to die for you
But if dying's asked of me
I'll bear that cross with honor
Cause freedom don't come free
Too many patriots have fallen before their time--Toby Keith being one of them--and freedom don't come free.
Thank you for all the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives to fight the good fight. May God bless the families and friends they left behind and may He bless our United States of America which they gave their lives to protect! ❤️
Women In Technology (WIT) hosted another jam-packed breakfast forum featuring Serena Sacks-Mandel and Laura Laday-Jones discussing the stories behind Serena’s inspirational new book EMPOWERED: Frame Your Narrative. Own Your Power. (A must-read!)
Here are a few of the excellent takeaways Serena shared:
Your Purpose is not about you. It’s about what you can do for others.
Live your values—does how you spend your time, money, and energy align with your values?
Be an active listener.
Be authentic enough to be vulnerable.
Find a way to add value in all your interactions.
Continue to learn—it’s the gift you give yourself.
Framing your narrative is where your power comes from. You get to define who you are and how you show up. You get to tell your story!
Don’t be a victim. Claim your power, don’t give it away!
Lastly, some excellent advice for parents to share with their 6th-12th grade kids. Let them know that whatever is going on in their lives is just a phase. They really do not want to peak in middle or high school. It will get better!
Thank you, Serena, for giving us a peak inside what has made you the vibrant and inspirational leader you’ve become. Thank you, Laura, for asking such great questions and thank you #WIT for time well spent!
