I’m closely following the changes in the United States regarding Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) laws– similar to those that have been active in Europe for many years. Here’s the latest to consider: 🌍 For those who have yet to, U.S. manufacturers must begin to plan for the end-of-life management of their products ���Each package will have a different fee assigned based on recyclability 🌍EPR programs shift waste-management duties from consumers and governments to producers 🌍Maine, Oregon, Colorado, and California have finalized EPR legislation for packaging, and more states are considering similar laws We can stay ahead of the curve by getting involved early in the process. I was recently asked about procuring sustainable materials for customers– a topic that comes up all the time– and how collaboration plays into the process. As we’re always reflecting on our commitment to environmental protection, we continuously look for ways to improve our production processes and approaches. Each step is meaningful towards a more sustainable future.

I am thrilled that Veronique Van Speybroeck has received the esteemed Francqui Prize. This accolade is a fitting recognition of her pioneering work in computational modeling of chemical reactions, a field in which she has made remarkable strides. During my PhD in the PCR group of Filip Du Prez, I had the pleasure of collaborating with Veronique and even co-authored an article with her in Nature Chemistry, which remains one of the highlights of my academic career. Her recognition with the Francqui Prize is well-deserved, and I look forward to seeing her continue to push the boundaries of scientific discovery.

I’m excited to share that MCC Label will be represented on a panel of talented leaders at FINATlabels ELF 2024. It’s imperative that we come together and have open conversations about the challenges our industry faces and the possibilities for evolution in the years ahead. I can’t think of a better place to share MCC’s knowledge on the topics of sustainable packaging, addressing climate change, and how to move everyone forward – plus hear new perspectives.
