Sales and marketing strategies have shifted more in the last year than I've seen in a long time. So, it's important to keep learning and adapting. That's why I'm excited to attend #gtm2023 in Nashville next week. Here are a few of the (many) topics I'll have my notepad out for: Speak the Same Data: Jacco from Winning by Design is going to discuss ensuring consistent data usage across the GTM stack. That's how you get success, sales, and marketing on the same page for priorities and KPIs. Get the Narrative: Gary Survis from Insight Partners will look at brand and building stories that create movements in your buyers. Sales Results: Jamie Kleinerman is going to discuss her strategy for boosting sales performance by uncovering hidden blockers in your org. I love this notion of looking beyond the generic fixes to diagnosing what's wrong with your unique model. If you're attending the event, I'd love to meet you and see how we can learn from each other. Daily Inspiration: "Every great story deserves a great storyteller!" - Futurist Jim Carroll The manufacturing company Ammega - in the business of manufacturing machinery for the packaged and consumer goods industry - had a bit of a problem. Trade show spending was shifting – attendance was down at the major events it regularly went to. It was becoming increasingly difficult to engage and interact with people on the show floor - attention spans were becoming scattered. Fees to participate were rising as the companies involved tried to adjust their business model post-pandemic, responding in part to continued rising inflationary costs. Overall, it was becoming increasingly difficult to tell their story - one involving new equipment and processes that could streamline many ongoing operations - in a way that made sense. Ammega decided to do something totally different - they decided to reinvest their traditional tradeshow spending into a small, intimate leadership meeting with several hundred key customers at a resort outside of Atlanta. To set the tone for the meeting – one full of disruptive opportunity – they brought me in for an opening keynote kickoff. Over the years, hundreds of others have. In fact, Digital Equipment - oldtimers will remember them! - booked me for a 7-city 'roadshow' back in 1993 to tell the story of the emerging Internet. Bottom line? Stories matter.
