But ultimately, learning and development helps close gaps while also anticipating what skills the organization will need to remain competitive long-term. When Corewell Health went through a significant merge, its learning and development team managed to protect its training investments by building and presenting an effective business case to leadership, creating a win-win situation for both itself and the company as a whole. In our 2024 IT Skills & Salary Survey, tech leaders shared that their teams have some of the widest skill gaps in artificial intelligence/machine learning skills. These days, the rate of change is just too fast for learning programs to keep up, and there aren't enough skilled workers in the market who can help all the organizations that have big plans with AI at the center. But tech leaders plan to address this issue and invest in training their teams, augmenting with outside help in the meantime, and even bringing in generative AI to bridge the gaps.
