As an NBA fan, I'm following the ongoing TV rights negotiations. A lot can change in 10 years, the last time NBA TV rights were negotiated, evidenced by a few things: 1. More vs less partners. NBC, ESPN, Amazon & TNT could all be part of the soon-to-be announced agreement, which will go into effect after the '24/'25 season. Or maybe not? 2. "Entertainment is a swamp right now with sports being the only firm ground." This is a quote from a former FoxSports executive & it perfectly highlights that traditional media has changed (i.e. collapse of cable), streaming still has an uncertain financial future & sports content is VERY expensive but is a reliable way to draw an audience. 3. Rights to WNBA telecasts. Love her, hate her or somewhere in-between, there's no denying Caitlin Clark's immediate on women's basketball. WBNA telecasts rights as part of the upcoming agreement bodes well for the path towards profitability for the WBNA. Where this all lands is TBD but one thing is clear: 2024 is not 2014 & if you make a mistake (TNT), you could be left out in the cold. #ripinsidethenba

Ahead of the WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association) Draft and the upcoming season, Prime Video & Amazon Studios and the league have extended their media rights agreement for two more years. This renewed partnership means that Prime Video will broadcast 21 games in the 2024 season, including the championship game of the 2024 Commissioner's Cup! This extension with Amazon is a major win for the league, as it remains in the market for its next primary media rights deal. Currently, the The Walt Disney Company/ ESPN is the league's largest rights holder. 🏀 #wbna #womensbasketball #amazon #amazonprimevideo #disney #espn #mediarights #sportsbiz #sportsbusiness #marketing #media #sportssponsorships #sponsorships #ai #mensio #hive Article by Sports Business Journal

The reception of the Fever wearing Caitlin Clark jerseys was fire. Love the jabs where Caitlin gives big hugs the State Farm rep, Jake. Clark's salary as the No. 1 pick(this is going to shock you) is $76,500. By comparison, the No. 1 pick from the NBA last year was over $12,000,000+. For media rights people, women's sports is a gold mine. The Aces changed their venue of their July 2 game against the Fever to a bigger arena in anticipation of the fan growth. Valuation metrics for sports franchises are (1) media rights contracts and (2) the expense of their players, among many other factors, but those two are pretty important. Women's sports is in a pretty attractive place right now for investors and media right players. (I don't own any sports teams directly or indirectly:-) #WomensSports #InvestInWomen #WNBA #SportsInvesting #MediaRights #CaitlinClark #sportsmarketing #sportsbiz https://lnkd.in/eGVfedh8
