Selenium reposted this
Selenium is the biggest open source success story never told. We're now at exactly 20 years since the first lines of code were written. Since then, it has launched countless careers and companies. Did you know the Selenium Test Automation User Group on LinkedIn alone has almost 250K users?! 🤯 (👋🏽, Mike Verinder ) But we're not done yet. These days, browser automation tools are caught up in the AI hype wave as an enabler for AI agents—when combined with large language models, they automate a browser to complete human tasks. And, of course, I hear some people use Selenium to test their websites, too. 😎 And yet, I'm not sure I've ever seen a long form mainstream article about the Selenium ecosystem—users from individuals to every big tech company, project volunteers, conference and meetup organizers, cloud infrastructure companies (some VC-funded to the moon... and some humbly bootstrapped), and a litany of test automation consulting services around the world. (Nevermind the data scrapers and click farmers— you know who you are. But they don't like to be talked about anyway.) The Selenium industry (which, it totally is—you can buy fancy reports that say so!) by itself is worth billions of dollars in market cap. And yet. Even in the tech press, Selenium never gets mentioned when talking about open source success stories. I guess there's not a lot of drama or links to be clicked when you don't change your license, even in the face of competition from big tech companies. Selenium is just... there. This massive, invisible, and awesome thing we've created. Long story long, thank you to everyone who's ever used it, supported it, or contributed to it. Good thing we didn't do it for the fame and glory, huh?
Closing keynote for #SeleniumConf 2024 from Simon Stewart and 🤖 Jason Huggins celebrating 20 years of Selenium. Fascinating learning how #Selenium and #WebDriver came together in the earlier days of the project.
Thank you Selenium , for being you . Seeing you alive and kicking daily is a joy :). You are the batteries behind many toys out there and a good one I would say. You are the fuel to the fire, of many careers , mine as well. Not for fame or money or glory, I’m here still and will stay because a lot of faceless people helped me when I was struggling and continue to. Here for the force behind the open source its users and its community. For knowing one can do something for the sheer joy of it. Thank you 🤖 Jason Huggins for this post. Agree with every word.
🤖 Jason Huggins - strongly agree your comments 💯💯💯- Selenium it self is a >B$ entity. On its inspiration there are bunch of commercial tools with different buzz words Digital,AI, less code, NoCode , etc.. flavors are coming out globally. but everyone has to agreee THE SELENIUM is a ‘MOTHER OF INNOVATION in TEST AUTOMATION’ Thanks 🤖 Jason Huggins Simon Stewart .. a BIG thanks to all inventors and contributors 👏👏👏👏
Thanks for sharing some of the journey in your keynote at #SeleniumConf 2024. It was enlightening hearing how Selenium and WebDriver came together. Here's a link to the keynote: https://youtu.be/w0Uo9gD_qfE
I don’t think so, there is JUnit as well.
Still remember the early days of using this in ThoughtWorks days, still going strong :) well done on this , I am sure the story needs to be told more often
I can't wait until next year, when Selenium will be 21 and I can start shouting "Go home Selenium, you're drunk!" whenever badly written pages make it confused.
Thanks 🤖 Jason Huggins for developing and leading this incredible project. Your work has quietly but powerfully shaped the industry
You're one of the heroes of the software testing field for sure 🤖 Jason Huggins
🤖 Jason Huggins You made many careers. A true web tester can't deny Selenium and its impact ever. Thanks Man.!!
