Honored to receive two Ohio Valley Emmy nominations this year! One was for a story highlighting the beauty of the Pinnacles near Berea with photographer Cameron Varner. https://lnkd.in/gPYpXSE6 The other, following a group of veterans walking to prevent suicides with photographer Brian Stahl. https://lnkd.in/gpvqu75Q By my count, WLEX-TV received nine nominations. Congrats to all my old colleagues and to the rest of the nominees!

One final ride for me on LEX 18 News at 5:30. Thanks to everyone who's tuned in these last couple of years, to Angie for being a great teammate on the desk, and to the entire LEX 18 team. This is a special newsroom. I’m really excited for the future. Next week, I begin my new role as the Executive Reporter at Fox 13 in Salt Lake City, coaching the MMJs and helping them broaden their storytelling skills. It’s going to be an incredibly fulfilling role in a city and state that I absolutely love!

Kentucky Derby 150 is officially in the books! What an incredible weekend working with this fantastic WLEX-TV team to bring you the very best Oaks and Derby coverage possible. This is such a special weekend and it means so much to me as a Kentuckian who grew up watching this coverage to be a part of it.

It’s time to share some big news! At the end of May, I’m heading back to Salt Lake City to take on a new role as the Executive Reporter at Fox 13, one of the other stations in our Scripps family. It’s focused on mentoring and coaching the other reporters in the newsroom. It’s the kind of job I wish had existed when I was just starting out and I’m really excited about it. The Fox 13 newsroom already has a really talented team and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do together. I can’t wait to start working with them. It’s been such a privilege to be an anchor and reporter at LEX 18 these past two years. I grew up watching their coverage of the Kentucky Derby each year and to sit at the anchor desk at Churchill Downs and of course, at our studio in Lexington every day, has been such an honor. I love this newsroom and all my colleagues in it. Everyone here has made this the most positive, supportive environment anyone could ever ask for and I’ll miss all of them. Kentucky will always be the home I can come back to. It’s been such a special experience to work in the place where I grew up and have so many memories. I love Lexington and I’ll always represent the BBN wherever I go. I’m also excited to head back to Utah, where I first discovered my love of the mountains, the desert, and all the outdoor activities that go along with them. My ski pass for next season is already booked! I’ve still got a few weeks here in Lexington, and I’m definitely making the most of it. I’m so thankful I get to finish my time with this amazing team covering one more Kentucky Derby!

Typically, we shoot and edit stories with traditional ENG cameras and laptops, but I found a really beautiful scene yesterday on my way in to work and was able to shoot and edit this quickly on my phone. We returned to do a traditional TV story as well, but I was really happy with how the iPhone version turned out. I’d never want to shoot exclusively on my phone, but it is a fantastic item to have in the toolbox.

I love having tools like this to dive into the data as results are coming in. The entire team on and off-camera always rises to the occasion on news days like this to give our audience the best possible coverage. Here’s a look at some of our coverage during our WLEX-TV Election Night special. #kentucky #lexky #localnews #tvnews #reporter #journalism
