We just had to share this lovely story about two local boys who ran a lemonade stand over the weekend to support the Friends of the Library. In April of this year, local Scarsdale mother, Julia Park, called the library to share that her son had seen the FOSL banner about a fundraiser that he wanted to contribute to, adding, “He was so motivated, that night he started brainstorming ideas and came up with the idea of donating his used books and selling lemonade.” Fundraising for the library is generally carried out by volunteers from the Friends of the Scarsdale Library. When Copresidents Stacey Mayer and Nancy Kaplan heard about this story, they saw it as a great opportunity to support these young philanthropists. Library Director, Beth Bermel, was also pleased to hear that the library had such an impact on Costas and his brother Philip. “It is truly heartwarming to see young people so invested in their community library. The Friends are lucky to have these enterprising youth supporting their efforts, and we are grateful for such a supportive community, including the inspiring Konstantoulakis family.” Moments like these highlight the impact libraries can have on our communities. Last week SPL staff members participated in the Westchester Corporate FunRun as part of the Westchester Library System's Team. Events like this do more than just encourage us to get out, walk and enjoy snacks and beverages. They bring together members of large organizations to meet, greet and learn more about one another. The WLS team won for largest team - with 92 participants from libraries across Westchester! At a time when libraries and staff are facing budget cuts, censorship, and burnout, taking a moment to stand in nature, as a community with shared purpose, and having an impact - making ourselves known, to each other and members of the other teams - is refreshing. Thank you to all who made this event possible. We had fun getting to know each other better outside of work, sharing laughs, and posing with a trophy that highlights the importance in coming together as a team. #WestchesterNY #Nature #TeamSpirit #FunRun #CorporateFunRun2024

Thank you for sharing Marie-Valentine Lacoudre! The presentation with anthony lacoudre was very well-received by the community and we appreciate the insight into French place names in America.
Last week, I had the privilege of attending a captivating discussion on French Place Names in America, led by anthony lacoudre. As a French-American student in the United States, I found this dialogue particularly enriching and engaging. Exploring the intersection of my dual heritage provided a unique lens through which to appreciate American history and the rich history of location names across the country. Anthony Lacoudre, a distinguished tax attorney and author (and proudly, my father), provided insightful information into this fascinating historical journey. A heartfelt thank you to Scarsdale Public Library for hosting such an enlightening event.
