I’ve just spent the last week in Rome with a global team of finance and IT leaders from a FTSE 50 firm which is amongst the most prolific and effective at acquiring businesses in their sectors. I was therefore struck by this article in the most recent edition of Harvard Business Review inspired by research from Bain & Company that explains how the success of M&A has so dramatically improved in the last 20 years, from a reported 70% failure rate to a 70% success rate. I’ve seen first hand how due diligence and integration have become so much more sophisticated and this article contains some very useful pointers toward getting that last 30% to be successes too. #PositiveMomentum #MandA #growth

Since 2020, Private Equity acquisitions of wealth management practices have accounted for over 78% of all M&A transactions in the space. Given that the model typically involves a limited holding period, and often an overhaul of the firm's growth strategy and operational playbook, it's worth asking the question: 🤔 Are the owners of these firms selling too early? Developing a repeatable sales process, hiring 1-2 key people to run specific elements of the business, and instilling a sense of discipline across the organization can have exponential impact on valuation. Transitioning from a "lifestyle business" to a scalable practice with recurring revenue growth is a process, but it starts with being real about where you currently are on that spectrum, and a commitment to moving the needle. #wealthmanagement #financialadvisor #privateequity
