Veronica-Sierra Gibson’s Post

📣Open for Contract opportunities📣 School is out, and in the spirit of having a few months off I want to take some time to refine my portfolio… When it comes to design, having an education isn’t enough. I tell my students all the time that A WELL CRAFTED PORTFOLIO IS KING 👑  I’m no exception to this rule, and I can admit I’ve been feeling the heat of being a hypocrite for a minute now. So I’m challenging myself to use AI to generate some creative briefs in areas I can use more experience in and showcase my own growth as a seasoned designer with over 7 years in the game. My chosen pedagogy has been design for social justice, and during my recent time at Sam Houston I’ve urged students to lean into design for community engagement and accessibility. Nowadays, it’s not enough just to kale things the “look pretty”, design has to solve an issue and serve a purpose. Shldr, was an app I developed during my MFA program at Pratt. It was a design response to the climate after COVID-19 where many of my friends and I were left to deal with real life events during one of the most trying times of our generation. I interviewed close friends, including my friend Lea who was in Residency at a major hospital in Houston, and my friend Ria who gave birth to her first child during the pandemic to see how their mental health was impacted by not being able to have a “normal” birthing experience. ✅ The solution: An app that uses a similar algorithm as Tinder to “match” women with women who are currently experience the same trials to form a sense of community at a time where we may feel isolation and can’t have direct contact with loved ones. Shldr asks users a series of questions at sign up to create group chats, connect users with the suicide prevention hotline, and curate organic connections. ✅ My work: User research  Interviews Testing Brand Identity Prototyping (using Figma and Adobe XD) Video Editing Mockups View the full case study here https://lnkd.in/gKyPqyq6
