Group Vice President; Chief Sustainability Officer; Global Head of Engagement, Government Affairs, and Policy at GE Vernova | Servant Leader

GE Vernova has a strong legacy of contributing to the development of Iraq’s energy sector, and I am proud to serve as the Chair of the US-Iraq Business Council. With many leaders in #Washington for the IMF and World Bank Spring Meetings last week, we announced multiple strategic initiatives planned to strengthen and modernize power infrastructure, enable the transition to a lower carbon energy future, and promote economic development in #Iraq.    I was honored to introduce Prime Minister H.E. Mohammed S. Al-Sudani to approximately 50 companies, recognizing his efforts to create a strong environment for global businesses to invest in a way that improves the quality of life for Iraq’s people, including #energy, #agriculture, #healthcare and #education.     I also had the privilege to join H.E. Hayan Abdul Ghani Al-Swad, the Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil and H.E. Dr. Muhammad Ali Tamim, the Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning, to sign two key collaborations. https://lnkd.in/gyApxqDW   We are committed to driving progress for the Iraqi people, and have added up to 19GW of capacity in Iraq in the past decade-plus. To advance efforts on #electrification and #decarbonization, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Iraqi Ministry of Oil to accelerate the use of flared gas to boost power generation, which will pave the way to future joint projects aiming to significantly reduce of emissions, while generating additional power.  Our letter of intent signed with the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity will explore injecting 3 additional GW into the #grid generated by highly efficient combined cycle power plants, while a five-year services and upgrades agreement will enhance the efficiency of more than 70 turbines with a total capacity of up to 7.5 GW.    It is also important that we create opportunities for Iraqis, and a new Monitoring and Diagnostics Centre, built on GE Vernova's Grid Software capabilities, will support Iraqi talent development through knowledge transfer and the specialized training of local engineers.    We look forward to continuing this important collaboration, and to bringing more #affordable, #reliable and #sustainable electricity to Iraq and the Iraqi people. Thank you to Ambassador Alina L. Romanowski, Steve Lutes, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for their support in facilitating these collaborations.   #FutureOfEnergy #GEVernova
