On Tuesday, I had the privilege of sharing the stage with some of the most influential voices on #sustainability, #leadership, and #innovation during #AspenESGSummit24.   During the opening plenary session Linda Hill, Kristen Siemen and I, talked about the positive momentum in sustainable innovation. Later in the day I was able to share stories of transformation around the energy transition with Katherine Neebe, Arnab Pal, Mike Boots, and David M.   We are in a transformative era of action for sustainability and climate change. One of the biggest game changers in this era needs to be elevating the role of #partnerships: companies partnering with each other, with NGOs, and, importantly, with governments, toward shared goals. It was an honor to join the only energy security event on the sidelines of the #NATO summit this week in Washington DC. The Atlantic Council brought together diverse leaders from Congress, the Executive Branch, NATO countries, and energy companies on the critical topic of planning for energy security in the years ahead. The discussion in the House Rayburn Office Building’s “Gold Room” was moderated by General Wesley Clark (Ret.), Landon Derentz and Olga Khakova. As the only energy #OEM with electrification as a core pillar of our #sustainability framework, GE Vernova integrates #EnergySecurity into our operations in three key ways: 1. Building strategic supply chains to meet the growing demand. The war in #Ukraine has reinforced the need to ensure we are being strategic in manufacturing the equipment the world needs for resiliency. The growing needs of energy security and electrification are leading us to expand manufacturing capacity in our facilities including transformer production in Shreveport, Louisiana, as well as recent investments in our historic #Schenectady, NY factory, which now produces the largest #OnshoreWind turbines made in the U.S., and where GE Vernova will make a new $22 million #investment to manufacture new advanced generators, helping meet existing and increased global demand from our customers. It was an honor to join the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Berlin this week to advance our priority of supporting the people of #Ukraine in enabling access to electricity under the most challenging circumstances. I joined the GE Vernova team - one of three US Companies invited to participate in the conference - to strengthen our strategic partnership for both Ukraine’s immediate power needs and the long-term reconstruction of its #SustainableEnergy infrastructure.    At the conference, I joined Svitlana Grynchuk, Deputy Minister from Ministry of Energy, Ukraine, and my colleague Olivier Jamart, to sign an MOU for GE Vernova's Electrification businesses #PowerConversion to support the country’s needs in the development of microgrids, smart grids, and increasing renewable energy sources and grid automation to improve the energy security, resilience, flexibility, and efficiency of Ukraine’s power system.   Today’s MOU complements other work we are doing in Ukraine to enable power generation at scale through power generation and grid equipment. It focuses on an additional layer of defense for Ukraine’s grid by enabling localized responses to close gaps and respond to challenges. This multi-layered approach is critical not only for Ukraine, but for the #EnergyTransition generally as we build systems to address weather events, cyber security, and growing demands and stressors on the grid.     At GE Vernova, we take seriously our electrification mission to make sure that kids can turn the lights on and feel safe, people can access healthcare, and everyone has the opportunity to prosper through jobs and economic opportunities. Success for this mission unites us as a company. Thank you to the Ukrainian, United States, and German governments for partnering with GE Vernova to solve these historic challenges. We look forward to continuing this important relationship into the future with the urgency it warrants. And we share the resolute and solutions-focused approach Ukraine’s leaders are demonstrating.   For more about our ongoing efforts in Ukraine, please see: https://lnkd.in/g5JdZM_g #UkraineRecovery #FutureOfEnergy

As we celebrated #WorldEnvironmentDay last week, I had a fitting opportunity to reflect on the momentum of GE Vernova with our new neighbors in #Massachusetts and #Cambridge at the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation in Boston. GE Vernova was proud to be a founding sponsor of #ClimaTech 2024 and a gala at the Library, which brought together hundreds of national leaders to focus on how #NewEngland can build upon its legacy of innovation in leading on climate tech.     The JFK Library is perhaps the most inspiring place to be thinking about solving for energy security and climate change. President Kennedy’s moonshot ambition continues to set the tone in every square inch and at every moment in that hallowed space. We had the honor of examining the President’s original #moonshot speech with his handwritten notes before taking the stage. It’s uplifting to think about the magnitude and scope of the President’s moonshot ambition and the mission that lies ahead for #energy and #climate —and to channel that optimism and conviction into what we do today.   We can think of no better mission control for our efforts than our hometown of Cambridge Massachusetts. We’re proud and appreciative of the leadership of Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey and her team, including Yvonne Hao, Melissa Hoffer, Ashley Stolba, and Rebecca L Tepper for fostering the nation’s leading community of climate tech innovation in the greater Boston area. We’re also appreciative of our partnerships with Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard University, Northeastern University, Greentown Labs, and The Engine, who are accelerating action through collaboration. While we may be new to the neighborhood, thank you all for the warm welcome. You’ve only reinforced our conviction that we moved to the right city.   As President Kennedy said: “Let us not despair but act. Let us not seek the Republican answer or the Democratic answer but the right answer. Another highlight from our recent GE Vernova’s Founders Meeting was the opportunity to engage with three of the most influential leaders in the #EnergyTransition space and their roles as #SustainabilityAmbassadors. Much of our discussion focused on their insights on how we can best engage, inspire, and bring into our fold younger generations in charting a more optimistic path to address the pressing issues of the energy transition and climate change.   As a leading ambassador to inspiring youth toward activism in climate change and conservation, Benjamin (Benji) Backer highlighted the importance of promoting positive and hopeful solutions to impact the trajectory and the importance of acting with passion. Benji is leading a rapidly growing effort to inspire younger generations to be part of the solution, highlighting their inspiration, ingenuity and ideas to push us forward. Benji’s powerful message of coming together to develop a solutions-focused trajectory to these challenges resonated across our audience as we embrace the need to engage younger generations, both to inspire and be inspired, and build on their courage.   As a leading ambassador on the global stage, Landon Derentz talked about the criticality of promoting cohesive global ideas that become a platform for young people to learn and experience the energy transition first-hand. This allows young leaders to build a holistic point of view when analyzing energy, while considering multiple factors including geopolitics, economic development and equity, technology and innovation. Landon also highlighted the significance of focusing both on the opportunities of energy innovation and on the global goal of access to secure, affordable and sustainable energy for all.   As a leading ambassador for navigating choppy political environments toward bipartisan solutions that stick, we were honored to hear from the Hon. Mary Landrieu. Senator Landrieu has been one of the most influential mentors to many people leading the energy transition today. Her pivotal and bold role in bringing together diverse points of views to drive solutions was a great reminder that authentic leadership means clearly communicating a vision of what can be achieved through collaboration. It’s not enough to have the most advance technology and innovation, we need to be able to excite and engage diverse audiences on our mission, be empathic, passionate and pragmatic, and promote win-win outcomes.   In my view, Sen. Landrieu, Landon and Benji represent the best in being ambassadors for action, solutions, and optimism in the wake of pressing challenges. They are among the most important sources of inspiration for me every day. We’re thankful for their generous time and impactful leadership at a pivotal moment. As we continue sharing updates internally, I’m confident our more than 80K GE Vernova ambassadors will deploy their learnings around the world as they drive our mission to #electrifying while #decarbonizing the world.

I remember seeing the original Tron movie with my father in the theater when I was 13 years old, and taking my oldest son, Tino, to see ‘Tron: Legacy’ when he was 8 years old. While the former was campy, the latter is a family favorite that we have watched many times.   Only now, I can’t experience anything Tron without thinking of my colleague Scott Reese who frequently reminds us “the #grid is #digital!”. Scott has taught me how our century old grid was designed as a one-way street from point of generation to distribution to consumption. Today, this same grid functions more as a superhighway, with #electrons moving in cross directions, more variability in generation, and--just like in Tron!--more risks of #cyber threats.   Fortunately, Scott and his team at GE Vernova's Grid Software business have developed leading software solutions for modernizing and protecting the grid and making it more resilient through digital tools. #GridOS is the first end-to-end #software portfolio designed specifically for grid orchestration to enable utilities to navigate the complexity that comes with a more sustainable energy grid.   Scott and GE Vernova's electrification software business are just part of our holistic approach to strengthening and modernizing the grid. I’ve always been proud to talk about the growing criticality of these products to #EnergySecurity and #electrification. And now after experiencing “The Grid” firsthand in Orlando, I’m even more thankful for Scott and his team as they help ensure more people have access to reliable power—despite the twists and turns we may encounter! #FutureOfEnergy

Last week during the inaugural GE Vernova’s Founders Leadership Meeting, we had the honor of hosting a virtual panel on #EnergySecurity with German Galushchenko, Minister of Energy of #Ukraine and Geoffrey Pyatt, Assistant Secretary, US Department of State and coordinator of the G7+ group for assistance to the energy sector of Ukraine. At the outset of the discussion, I shared my view that these may be the two most important leaders globally in navigating the challenges of energy security. Energy security is not a hypothetical or future issue. The discussion focused on how the war in Ukraine has been a fundamental game changer in the urgency of the world addressing the challenges of energy security and preparedness. As Minister Galuschenko shared, hours—not days or weeks—have made the difference in maintaining the grid for Ukraine’s people. As threats to #energy security emerge, we increasingly need to prepare to respond within hours, and have to be prepared to put into play a diverse suite of technologies to create resiliency against these challenges. We’ve learned a lot from our partnership with the Ukraine, US and EU governments on how to approach energy security threats both now in the future. As a result, the world increasingly is prioritizing energy security by investing in both manufacturing and a diverse suite of energy technologies. This prioritization aligns closely to GE Vernova’s portfolio and scale. We have a unique role to play today and in the #FutureOfEnergy. Beyond Ukraine, these are lessons we are using to solve for #ExtremeWeather events, #CyberSecurity, growing #demand, #variability and #grid readiness. Thank you once again to Minister Galushchenko and Assistant Secretary Pyatt for taking the time to speak to our top leaders during such a critical time for Ukraine, and for the world.
