Online grocery sales have moderated over the past two years as in-store shopping has picked back up and inflation has weighed down consumer spending. Nevertheless, retailers are still taking steps to improve profitability and the online shopping experience, realizing the important role digital still plays in their sales and customer loyalty. A growing number of chains have established proprietary e-commerce platforms that put their brands front and center. Food retailers are also honing their back-of-house operations to make the picking, packing, and delivery process more efficient. #groceryretail #omnichannelretail #retailtech

As eCommerce started to grow, experts quickly predicted the "merging" of physical retail and online fulfilment. And we did see that happen quickly, with many retailers picking orders from the floor, using backrooms to handle packages, and all kinds of variations of omnichannel retailing. So, while not a "new" concept, I personally feel what Walmart just announced is the true version of what experts predicted would happen. The line between an actual store and a fulfillment center truly blurring. "These stations are “like a mini post office that receives and delivers packages,” Jennifer McKeehan, SVP of transportation and delivery for Walmart U.S., said in a company blog post. Walmart plans to have more than 40 parcel stations in its stores by the end of the year, and some are already in operation." And from the blog post: "Parcel stations help us move goods even faster to a customer’s home by using our Private Fleet to transport more online orders. Packages originate in our fulfillment centers and move to a sortation center or directly to stores, where they are then delivered to a customer’s home using our last-mile delivery network." Walmart says it has "4,700 stores located within 10 miles of 90% of the U.S. population" and that they "have over 4,000 stores operating as delivery hubs" in some fashion already. #CSCCSCM #Walmart #parceldelivery #homedelivery #eCommerce #retail #omnichannel #supplychain #logistics

In the rapidly evolving landscape of retail, omnichannel strategies have become pivotal for meeting consumer demands. At the heart of this transformation lies 3PL warehousing, playing a crucial role in supporting these dynamic retail approaches. Third-party logistics (3PL) warehousing offers retailers flexibility and scalability, allowing them to efficiently manage inventory across multiple channels. By outsourcing warehousing operations, retailers can streamline their supply chain management, reduce overhead costs, and improve order fulfillment speed. Moreover, 3PL warehousing enhances the omnichannel retail experience by ensuring product availability across various sales channels, including brick-and-mortar stores, e-commerce platforms, and mobile apps. This seamless integration enables retailers to provide consistent and personalized shopping experiences, regardless of how and where customers choose to engage. Additionally, 3PL providers leverage advanced technology and data analytics to optimize inventory levels and distribution networks, thereby enhancing efficiency and reducing shipping times. This strategic partnership empowers retailers to adapt swiftly to market trends and consumer preferences, ultimately driving growth and customer satisfaction in the competitive retail landscape. https://labelpackship.com/

Walmart is improving their features and services for marketplace sellers. Below are 3 key improvements: With Brand Shops and Brand Shelves, merchants can create their own dedicated storefronts to highlight specific products and differentiate themselves from the competition. Merchants with physical stores can now use Walmart’s technology to enable in-store pickup and same-day delivery. Sellers can also use Walmart Fulfillment Services to ship big and bulky items.

Customer expectations of ultra-fast #delivery speeds, free and flexible #returns, on-demand package tracking and convenient payments are on the rise, changing the game of #ecommerce fulfillment. Recent consumer surveys have also made it clear that customers prioritize online shopping for its convenience, while they consider the overall shopping experience when shopping in-store. Likewise, as e-commerce sales in the U.S. increase year -over -year, so does the need for #retailers to build stronger distribution networks to fulfill these online orders. To compete with e-commerce titans like Amazon, it’s important for each of these retailers to have a strong omnichannel experience. Glossy’s sibling publication Modern Retail recently released the annual Modern Retail Index (MRI), which analyzes retailers’ e-commerce fulfillment services. The data compares retailers’ ease of fulfilling e-commerce orders to provide a ranking of each retailer’s capabilities. The index found the following. Story by Dania Gutierrez-Flores

🛒📦 Key Insights from "More Online Orders from Big-Box Retailers Will Likely Be Fulfilled at a Store Near You" 🌐💼 Sudip Mazumder, SVP, Retail Industry Lead, North America, comments on why retailers are investing more in in-store fulfillment. Wonderful article, here are my top 5 key insights from it. 1. **Store-Based Fulfillment's Rise:** Big-box retailers are heavily investing in store-based fulfillment to meet the surge in online orders. Ulta Beauty, Ikea, Walmart, Target, and more are embracing this strategy. The pandemic accelerated this trend, highlighting its potential in speeding up delivery and reducing costs. 2. **Speed and Accuracy as Competitive Edge:** In the e-commerce race, speed and accuracy are becoming critical differentiators. Retailers aim to offer delivery in less than two hours, recognizing that meeting customers' need for rapid service is key to success. 3. **Retailers' Battle for Dominance:** Traditional retailers see stores as crucial assets in the e-commerce battle. Target, for instance, plans to invest heavily in expanding its store-fulfilled delivery network. This strategy allows them to enhance the customer experience, broaden merchandise selection, and shorten delivery times. 4. **Cost-Efficiency:** Using stores as fulfillment centers can cut costs compared to traditional distribution centers. It reduces shipping zones, keeps inventory fresher, and optimizes the workforce by involving store associates in fulfillment tasks. 5. **Positive Results Amid Challenges:** Retailers like Walmart and BJ's Wholesale Club have seen substantial growth in store-fulfilled deliveries, contributing billions in revenue. However, this strategy can disrupt in-store shopping and poses inventory management challenges. In the ever-evolving landscape of retail, using stores as fulfillment hubs appears to be an unstoppable trend driven by customer demand for fast, convenient service. 🚀🛍️ #RetailTech #Ecommerce #SupplyChainStrategies

With a growing number of online retailers now offering to provide third-party logistics to vendors, the boundaries are blurring between e-commerce and logistics. In 2017 we identified a nascent trend in the consumer goods market of moving physical distribution to third-party logistics providers (3PLs). With the growing market share of e-commerce, 3PLs offered a simple and flexible solution just as companies were coming to see physical distribution as a non-core competency. The pandemic has fast-tracked the shift towards omnichannel retail, supercharging the trend of businesses employing 3PLs. This is causing the lines between manufacturer, 3PL, and customer to blur. A look at the online retail giant Amazon helps illustrate this point. Amazon is not simply a retailer that happens to sell its suppliers’ products online. For years, Amazon has been offering a solution called Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA), whereby Amazon would store goods for its vendors and prepare/ship orders on their behalf – for a fee, of course. Simply put, Amazon offers to act as a 3PL for its vendors.
