Instead of jumping right into the next romantic relationship like most people do post-divorce, I invested in myself.
2 weeks after my divorce, I enrolled in a The University of Chicago Booth School of Business โTake 3โ course, offered for graduates of Chicago Booth.
A Digital Marketing class.
As a repeat founder and VC investor, I wanted to understand how to quantify digital marketing spend so Iโd know how to do it and what questions to ask founders. I also wanted to help the founders I was investing in.
It was my lifeline at that time in my life. Simply so I didnโt have to think about how sad I was and so I could dedicate my brain into โlearningโ.
I couldnโt wait for Friday nights during the Fall of 2018 at Gleacher Center in downtown Chicago on Friday nights from 6-9PM.
This class led me to sitting next to the founder of a beauty tech startup that needed a CMO.
I became that CMO and with lots of work, we auditioned for @ABCSharkTank and received 5th place in Chicago Booth Polsky Center at the University of Chicago New Venture Challenge, one of the top 3 startup pitch competitions in the country.
For the record, in 2017, the minute I had decided I wanted a divorce, I stalked the professor of that Digital Marketing class for a year until I knew he would let me in that class.
I was the ONLY mama in that class.
