My no.1 piece of advice for female founders raising investment ⤵ Be the FIRST to raise objections, i.e.: “These are the top 3 risks to the business and how I’d handle them” Because let’s be honest… In the boardroom, women are often met with a lot more skepticism. Despite Flash Pack’s numbers speaking for themselves… In the past, I’ve been told: → My business is too niche → I’m too assertive, or not assertive enough → To lower my expectations because I’m a Mum, too I learnt to address these concerns head on. To better guide the conversation. To focus on the potential upsides. To pushback on the potential downsides. As a woman, you’ll have to fight harder for every opportunity. But that doesn’t mean you can’t win. Cultivate your self-belief, trust your instincts, and never let anyone tell you what you can’t achieve 🩵 PS. Last weekend, I was at a wedding in Italy. And I got a whole lot more than I bargained for ⤵ It was a reunion of school friends. ~ We’re all in our early 40s. ~ Friends for more than 30 years. ~ But rarely finding time to reconnect. Because… life happens. ⏩ And before you know it, years pass without speaking a word. But this weekend felt like no time had passed at all. We talked until the early hours. We cried over shared struggles. We laughed until our sides ached. We’ve all taken different paths... 💍 Some are married. 🍼 Some are raising kids. 👔 Some are climbing the corporate ladder. 🚀 Some are chasing entrepreneurial dreams. But when we come back together... It's like nothing has changed. It was a reminder that friendship fuels the soul. ↳ More than any green smoothie or 8 hours sleep 😅 Sometimes, the best thing to do for your wellbeing: Is sing power ballads til 3am with your old mates. So here’s to long-lasting friends 🥂 The ones that remind us: ↳ Who we are ↳ Where we came from ↳ And how far we’ve come Those you don’t have to speak everyday... Perhaps controversial, but hear me out… You don’t gain confidence by reading self-help books 📚 You gain confidence by DOING the things that scare you 💪🏽 We’ve all been there… The shaky voice, the sweaty palms, the racing heart. They’re signs you’re not in your comfort zone. Signs you’re exactly where you need to be. And honestly, the fear never really goes away. Failing at something still stings. ↳ But I learn & try again anyway. I still get nervous before public speaking. ↳ But I show up & speak anyway. Opening up about my journey still feels vulnerable. ↳ But I share my truth anyway. It’s not about eliminating fear. It’s about acting in SPITE of it. And over time, things that once scared the sh*t out of you… Feel that little bit easier. That’s when you know your confidence has grown. “As CEO, everything is your fault”. Sound familiar? Leadership is a privilege. But it is also a HUGE responsibility. Decisions, doubts, sleepless nights. We all feel it… The pressure to have all the answers. To be the ‘perfect’ leader. But what if: It’s okay to NOT have all the answers. It’s okay to NOT be the perfect leader. Leadership isn’t about shouldering responsibility for everything. It’s about knowing when to: 1. OWN IT → You made the call? Own the outcome. → Culture needs fixing? It starts with you. → Something failed? Find the lesson. 2. EMPOWER OTHERS → Trust your team’s capabilities → Let them lead in their areas. → Give them ownership to grow. It’s a delicate balance between accountability & empowerment. Ultimately, the buck stops with you… But it’s important to know when to let go and trust your team, too. Don’t you agree? No one has ever asked my husband, “how do you do it all?” Yet, in 2024… People are still surprised when women have a fulfilling career & family life. But childcare isn’t solely a woman’s domain. Parenting isn’t gender-specific! Men can be working parents. Women can be working parents. Men need time & support to raise kids. Women need time & support to raise kids. Men deserve to be celebrated as caregivers. Women deserve to be celebrated as caregivers. Let’s ditch the Mum-guilt. And normalise a world where ALL parents are empowered. At work, and at home.
