Today is National Asian & Pacific Islander HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. Although HIV rates are relatively low among API individuals compared to other racial and ethnic groups, the repercussion of HIV/AIDS in API communities still warrants attention. Stereotypes about API being the “model minority” contribute to their invisibility in strategies to address HIV domestically, and the impact of HIV/AIDS on these communities is often overlooked. The rate of viral suppression among Asian people in the U.S. (68%), is still higher than the national average (65%). For NAPIHAAD, we're hoping to help reduce HIV stigma in Asian, Native Hawaiian, & Pacific Islander communities while breaking down barriers to accessing care. Check out this resource hub to learn how we can all do more to support this community: https://lnkd.in/gF8arUrc

August 20 is Southern HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (SHAAD), a day dedicated to fostering dialogue about HIV/AIDs and reducing HIV stigma in Southern states. The South experiences a higher burden of HIV compared to other regions across the US. While the South makes up only 38% of the US population, this region accounts for approximately 45% of all people living with an HIV diagnosis in the US and 52% of all new HIV diagnoses in 2021. Some communities, such as Black and Latino gay and bisexual men, are disproportionately impacted by HIV and are seeing increased rates of new infections. Let’s shed light on #HIV’s impact in the South and promote equal access to care. This #SHAAD, explore @aidsvu’s deeper look at #HIV in the region. Visit: https://lnkd.in/gZbepy5E

Lets End STIGMA, IT Starts With YOU. As we commemorate UNAIDS 10 years of #zerodiscriminationday under the theme "to protect everyone's health, protect everyone's rights" Lets put an end to STIGMA, when people stigmatize you, it means depression, anxiety and trauma, it also means other people living with HIV will fear to disclose their HIV status, some will default their medications when they get into non-disclosure relationships and it results in new HIV infections, eroding our efforts to close the tap for new HIV infections. #ENDAIDS, It STARTS with YOU, END STIGMA. World AIDS Day: Together Against HIV/AIDS 💪🏼 🔹 Only 67% of those living with HIV have access to antiretroviral therapy, a critical life-saving treatment. 🔹 Despite advances in treatment, there were an estimated 1.5 million new HIV infections in 2022 alone. 🔹 As of 2023, approximately 38 million people globally are living with HIV. Today, on World AIDS Day, Nursdoc stands in solidarity with the millions affected by HIV/AIDS worldwide. This day is not just a reminder of the ongoing battle against HIV/AIDS, but also an opportunity to spread awareness and help foster understanding. 🔸 HIV/AIDS impacts communities worldwide, irrespective of gender, age, or socio-economic status. 🔸 Early diagnosis and treatment can lead to a normal and healthy life for those affected. 🔸 Stigma and discrimination remain significant barriers to HIV prevention and treatment. #Nursdoc #WorldAIDSDay #AIDS2023 #HIVAwareness #EndHIVStigma #HealthForAll

Tomorrow is National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. Did you know that in the U.S., women of color, especially Black and Hispanic women, are disproportionately affected by HIV/AIDS? According to the CDC: 🎗️In 2021, Black individuals ages 13+ represented 12% of the U.S. population, but accounted for 40% of people with HIV. 🎗️Hispanic/Latino individuals ages 13+ represented 18% of the population but accounted for 25% of people with HIV. ️New HIV infections among Black women are 10 times that of white women and four times that of Latina women. We have effective prevention and treatment options, but they are not reaching people who could benefit most. Learn more about ways to prevent HIV through several PPMW programs sponsored by ViiV Healthcare. To learn more, email education@ppmw.org or fill out this form. 🔗: https://lnkd.in/eJ-yJb8H

On this National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, I would like to highlight the reasons that HIV remains a major global public health issue. According to the @who HIV has claimed approximately 40.4 million lives so far globally, and an estimated 39 million people globally are living with HIV at the end of 2022. ⅔ of this number (25.6 million) are in the African region, and an estimated 1.2 million are in the US. In 2021, according to census.gov @uscensusbureau , Black/African Americans made up 14% of the US population; however accounted for 40% (14,528) of the estimated 36,136 new HIV according to @cdcgov This shows that Black/African Americans have been disproportionately affected by the HIV epidemic. So there's more work to be done in areas of prevention, testing, linkage to care and retention in treatment. Hopefully by creating awareness of this health issue, you and I can help end the HIV epidemic. If you want to know more about HIV, then like and share this video, leave a comment, and don't forget to follow me. Thank you. #hiv #aids #aidsawareness #aidsfoundation #aidsfreegeneration #nbhaad

Words have power! Clarity is key. FACT: 📣 HIV treatment works. 📣 People living with HIV, who are on effective treatment with an undetectable viral load, have zero risk of passing HIV on sexually. World Health Organization put out a clear message at #IAS2023 that people living with #HIV have “zero risk” of passing on HIV if they adhere to prescribed treatment. This clarity is key to reassuring people living with HIV and their partners and enabling them to live their best and healthiest of lives. Everyone has a part to play in sharing this message. 📣 Find out more about this update & help spread the word far & wide using #SayZero on social media! bit.ly/44ZvbjJ It is so important to acknowledge the power of collective action. Vanessa - absolutely! 🎯🚀👌 Words - education provides the energy! Clarity - full understanding helps drive out ignorance/misunderstanding, underlining knowledge, confidence and acceptance. Regular HIV testing should be available to all. Making routine testing accessible, with accurate test results immediate (in 1 minute, whether self test or in a POC environment) Education should be continous, engaging and digestible. HIV testing at point of care, allows for agile and scalable patient care. Delivering advice, support, and direction to appropriate care pathways, medication and counselling. So what more can be done? 🤔 And what are the main issues to achieving accessible HIV testing for all? 🤔 Does lack of suitable and long term budgets and ongoing investment impact HIV testing accessibility? #hivawareness #education #sayzero
