We caught up with Liam Lynch from KPMG who is chairing the Stimulating and Incentivising working group for the National Policy on Philanthropy being implemented by Department of Rural and Community Development. Philanthropy Ireland is secretariat for this group along with the Communications and Awareness working group. Liam provided an update on the progress of the group and detailed why he got involved. The working groups for the policy are a fantastic example of stakeholders from government, academia, public and private sectors coming together to further the social impact that is achieved through strategic philanthropy.

Doing page proofs for our forthcoming #CommunityInvestment 2.0 paper exploring evolving approaches to corporate responsibility, community partnerships and programs, philanthropy, volunteering, pro bono etc.. In it, Emily Heath has coined the phrase "Give-flation" and even though it's a bit of a 'sneak peak', it's too great not to share... it describes the tendency we are observing of organisations finding ways to make increasingly large claims about the size of their corporate community investment (something I know many others have been noticing, also)... how good is this sentence: "This sort of ‘give-flation’ traps organisations into a reputational arms race, publishing increasingly large corporate giving numbers that at the same time are increasingly meaningless and hollow to employees, communities and other stakeholders (and that demonstrate a solipsistic focus on the organisation itself rather than on the communities it serve)." If that doesn't whet your appetite, you're a harsh judge of copy! Looking forward to sharing the full edition soon. Thought Andie Dalziell, Megan Ball, Linda Hodgson, Terence Jeyaretnam and Yasmeen Wang in particular might like that one.

Transformative Philanthropy is a concept of philanthropy to drive meaningful change and impact in social justice. I am looking forward to reading Fozia Irfan OBE's new report on this topic, which will be of interest to trustees of any endowed grant-making charities and to philanthropists. #TransformativePhilanthropy #Philanthropy
On my way home from the excellent launch event for Fozia Irfan OBE's new report on "Transformative Philanthropy". Great to share the stage with Danielle Walker-Palmour and Edgar Villanueva, and have the chance to chip in some thoughts on the history of social justice and philanthropy in the UK. In a rare bout of organisation I have even turned my thoughts into a blog as well, so if you missed out (or if you were there, and want to relive the experience), your are in luck... https://lnkd.in/eZhwvUzc And, of course, more importantly if you want to read Fozia's report you can find it on the WPM website (where I am delighted to be able to provide hosting!): https://lnkd.in/eGd3YwxE
