The transformation of Shanghai’s West Bund from a riverfront industrial hub steeped in history into Asia's largest cultural and artistic district is well underway. As part of the regeneration of the area, we recently completed the adaptive reuse of a dome structure that was part of China’s oldest cement production facility, converting it into a unique event venue. The project, known as the West Bund Art Center, preserves key elements of the historic pre-homogenization plant, like the dome’s steel frame and a conveyor bridge. Meanwhile, new interventions, including translucent cladding, a public foyer, and a viewing gallery, cultivate new forms of use and interaction—from art exhibitions and concerts to sports and cultural events. The project was recently featured in ArchDaily. Check it out: https://lnkd.in/gXwVmJnH Designed by our Shanghai studio, part of SHL - Schmidt Hammer Lassen.

🏢🏛 ANHUI HEFEI TV Center 🏢🏛 BEW The 301-meter high tower is considered the largest tower ever designed by a French architect in China. Following an international competition in 2009, NDA Group - New Design Associates was selected as the finalist for the design of the Anhui Broadcasting and TV Centre. Located at the south end of Swan Lake in the new commercial and administrative heart of Hefei, Anhui’s capital city, the Centre provide signature space for the region’s largest television producer and is the highest observation point of the region. The iconic tower rise above the Anhui skyline, making it the largest tower ever designed by a French architect in China. NDA’s design concept is inspired from the cultural character of paper scrolls and calligraphy, with the curves of the centre’s façade giving the building an iconic and airy feeling. #BEW #BharatEngineeringWork #Engineering #Innovation #ArtificialIntelligence #Bharat 🇮🇳 #Creativity #Robotics #Constructions #Industries #Technology #AI #Science #ElectricalEngineering #MechanicalEngineering #CivilEngineering

President of Estonia Alar Karis was introduced to our mycelium seating block at the Eesti Arhitektuurimuuseum / Estonian Museum of Architecture. 👋 The exhibition Diplomacy of Space: The Interiors of Estonian Foreign Missions curated by Karin Paulus shows that alongside acknowledging the ingenuity of our diplomats, a country also establishes itself abroad through space – embassies, residences and other foreign missions. Considering the fact that an embassy is a piece of Estonia, it is logical that the interior architecture should reflect this. We are happy that b210 architects involved us in the Estonian Embassy in Singapore project to emphasize Estonia’s deep relationship with nature and innovation. #mycelium #fungi #futurematerials #myceliumdesign #designinspirations #smartdesign #designinnovation #designcommunity #designlife #designlover #designmarket #designdaily #recycleddesign #interiordecoration #innovativedesigns #greendesign #designphotography #creativedesign #materialdesign #mycocomposite #mushroom #biomaterial #mycomaterials #estonia #visitestonia #estonia

This was such a relevant topic and project to work on... Envisioning the future of #urbanmanufacturing in the centre of Singapore, through #adaptive #reuse and #incremental #transformation of two its oldest industrial estates. Those old stack-up factories are a gem of typology and heritage which I hope will be reused and kept for the long term #colocation #lownoise #lowemission
#KCAP is happy to announce that our competition entry for a project in Singapore, is currently on view at the #exhibition ‘Reimagining Singapore’s Industrial Landscape’. The exhibition runs from 15 September to 20 October 2023 at the Singapore City Gallery, and is an initiative of JTC Corporation; the local authority tasked with developing industrial infrastructure that 'supports the growth of new industries and enterprises in #Singapore'. KCAP was one of four teams invited to take part in a #competition for the Kallang-Kolam Ayer Industrial Estate, an area in central Singapore that is home to high-density industrial and business activities. Our design, created in collaboration with Henning Larsen and Scott Brownrigg, sought to transform the estate into a high-density industrial hub with low-noise, low-emission logistics. This was to be achieved by creating a clustered environment where spaces for living, working, and entertainment could all adapt and synergise, together with a reactivated ground floor level that seamlessly integrated the project, with adjacent residential communities. The exhibition coincides with the 'Archifest Singapore 2023' festival, which runs from 29 September to 28 October 2023, and is organised by the Singapore Institute of Architects. Read more about the exhibition over on the website of JTC: https://lnkd.in/eqSDqQbQ Exhibition dates: 25 September to 20 October 2023 Location: 45 Maxwell Road, Singapore 069118

SHARED SPACES One well-known example of shared spaces architecture is Exhibition Road in London, United Kingdom. Exhibition Road underwent a redesign that transformed it into a shared space, completed in 2012. The project aimed to create a more pedestrian-friendly environment by removing traditional traffic infrastructure and promoting a sense of shared use among pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists. Key features of Exhibition Road's shared space design include: 🛣 Unified Surface: Exhibition Road features a single, continuous surface without curbs or delineations between pedestrian and vehicular areas. This design choice encourages users to share the space more organically. 🚶♀️ Enhanced Pedestrian Zones: Wider sidewalks and pedestrian areas were created, allowing for increased space for pedestrians to move freely. Seating and public art were also incorporated to enhance the pedestrian experience. 🚦 Reduced Traffic Signs: Traditional traffic signs and signals were minimized or eliminated to encourage a greater reliance on eye contact and communication between road users. The idea is to promote a more intuitive and collaborative approach to navigating the space. ☑ Shared Responsibility: The redesign aimed to create a sense of shared responsibility among different road users. Without the strict separation of pedestrian and vehicular zones, everyone in the space is encouraged to be more aware of their surroundings and to negotiate movement with others. 🌳 Landscaping and Greenery: Exhibition Road features landscaping elements and greenery, providing aesthetic appeal and contributing to a more pleasant and inviting atmosphere. ♿ Improved Accessibility: The redesign included improvements to accessibility, making it easier for people with disabilities to navigate the area. https://lnkd.in/gstdFiJy

As a Dane, you can’t help but feel a sting of pain when reading articles or viewing images of the beloved Børsen going up in flames. 🔥 The images by BBC News is hard to look at, but a reminder how architecture stands as a tangible representation of a society's history, culture, and identity, acting as a time capsule that transcends generations. 👵👶 Each architectural marvel carries within it the stories of the past, reflecting the aspirations, struggles, and achievements of those who came before. 📖 The devastation felt by the Danish people upon losing a part of their history, such as the Notre-Dame Cathedral fire in Paris, underscores the profound emotional connection between people and their architectural heritage. 🇩🇰 Such losses serve as poignant reminders of the irreplaceable value of art and architecture to society. Preserving these masterpieces is not just about maintaining physical structures but also about safeguarding cultural heritage and ensuring that future generations can continue to draw inspiration from the rich tapestry of the past. 🕰️ In essence, the preservation of architectural art is a collective responsibility that honors the legacy of our ancestors and enriches the cultural fabric of our world. 🌏 #denmark #copenhagen #børsen #architecture #history #art #artmatters #creativity #creativitymatters #artworld #innovation #culture #artxp https://lnkd.in/gfM83Etn
