WIN! SHL to develop new urban neighbourhood in Luxembourg City! We're excited to share that we have won the competition to develop NEI HOLLERICH - a new vibrant neighbourhood in the city of Luxembourg. The winning proposal has been developed in close collaboration with Luxembourg-based assar and envisions an area shaped by Luxembourg's unique topography and the district's distinctive location. Merging multiple functions, the new neighbourhood will offer a rich and welcoming environment, facilitating living, working, and accessing basic needs within a 15-minute walk or bike ride from home. The vision involves transforming the area into a neighbourhood with a strong sense of identity, emphasising community, cultural richness, social cohesion, and well-being. A new urban focal point and infrastructural node in the cityscape catering to a wide range of future users. We are looking forward to continuing the work as a team together with Fonds de Compensation! West Bund Art Center Unveils in Shanghai’s Cultural District At the centre of what was once China’s first and oldest cement production facility, we have transformed a "pre-homogenisation" dome structure into the new, flexible cultural destination known as the West Bund Art Center. This project exemplifies a thoughtful and sustainable approach to adaptive transformation, revitalising an otherwise declining building while preserving the dome structure’s historical integrity and cultivating new forms of use and interaction. The West Bund Dome Art Center is designed to host everything from art exhibitions and concerts to sports and other large cultural events, taking centre stage in Shanghai’s blossoming cultural district, the West Bund—an area that epitomizes the century-long history of Chinese national industry. Once fully developed, the West Bund will be the largest cultural district not only in China but also in Asia. Ark wins Speckle's Best Overall Project! The way we archive and document projects necessitates collaborative and agile delivery methods for our clients. Ark offers a modern solution for housing project information and deliverables. As part of the Speckle hackathon, our talented Digital Team has developed a prototype that transforms typical file-based projects into cloud objects. This innovation makes project data accessible for our clients in Business Intelligence platforms, AI applications, and quality assurance processes. Ark is designed for simplicity—getting started is as easy as dropping a file. We look forward to integrating the hackathon outcomes further into our digital practice. A huge congrats to the winning team: Victor Wanderley Barbosa, Zuzanna Czapla, Ellen Berglund, Daniel Boba & Adam Burnham #shl #schmidthammerlassen #SpeckleHackathon

‘Cultural Resonance: Embracing Generosity, Empathy, and Curiosity in Design’ This Tuesday, June 11, our Partner & Library Lead, Elif Tinaztepe, will deliver a keynote at the annual UX in Libraries Conference in Cambridge, UK. Over the past 25 years, we have designed more than 25 libraries across the globe. From small-scale interventions to some of the largest library buildings in the world, our portfolio reflects a rich tapestry of scale and geography. Throughout our ongoing work with libraries, we’ve witnessed an unprecedented library renaissance. We see libraries as the cultural hubs of our time – ever-evolving places that respond to and challenge the rapid changes in social, technological, and demographic trends. Libraries are not just repositories of knowledge but dynamic spaces fostering community and connection.
