To address climate risk, asset owners rely on data to make informed decisions. Hymans Robertson's 2023 survey findings showed an improvement in response rates and data quality, although progress remained limited. This is the dilemma that all societies are facing concerning climate change: improving socioeconomic conditions for communities in the short term or creating more sustainable foundations for future generations. This is far from an easy discussion, especially when it's driven by pluralistic political systems characterized by intense competition between countries. There's no easy decision, no consensus, and no right or wrong choice. Extremists on both sides play a fundamental role in making everyone aware of what we stand to gain and, more importantly, what we stand to lose. We must find a way to move forward and make the most of “best possible decisions”. From a pragmatic point of view, this is the norm. It's not easy for me to put this into words, to understand decisions that undermine our efforts in combating climate change. But we all must face the fact that this same decision-making process has enabled us to live and evolve until now, especially in democratic countries. Are most of us disappointed? Definitely! But this is how the process works. Let's roll up our sleeves and continue to do what we must: make the best possible decisions as sustainable as possible. https://lnkd.in/dbXPX2jH

RMI Senior Principal Deborah Gordon sat down with our partners at Climate TRACE to discuss RMI's role in this exciting coalition that is bringing unparalleled transparency and accountability to global greenhouse gas #emissions tracking. A few highlights: 💡 RMI has modeled over two-thirds of the world's oil and gas supply volume, and we're shooting to get 100 percent modeled and accounted for by Climate TRACE. 💡 There's a very big variance in the climate impact of these resources and how we manage them. 💡 Climate TRACE helps decision makers prioritize their leakiest assets to stop #methane emission leaks. 💡 In this decisive decade, Climate TRACE can also help address real-world policy questions about opportunities to pinpoint and cut oil and gas and other sector greenhouse gas emissions.
