Happy Friday 😁. Let me take this time to congratulate Robot Boii winning the Top Personality and Influencer Brand and Overall Top Brand at the 3rd annual Top 16 Youth-Owned Brands Awards. The Overall Top Brand award is given to a brand that exudes excellence on all fronts. The Robot Boii brand is original, creative, accessible through various channels and consistent in its values. It is the first time the YOBAs has a personality as it’s overall Top Brand. This is indicative of the power of personal branding. It was a beautiful moment to have Sheldon Tatchell (founder of Legends Barbershop) 2023 Overall Top Brand) handing over the award. I want to take this time to publicly thank Prof Bonang Mohale for the keynote address he delivered at the 3rd annual Top 16 Youth-Owned Brands Awards. For most, outside of the the actual awards his address it was a highlight of the night. He asked 3 pertinent questions: 1. Do you as a family or a community sit at the table and discuss how to make monev? 2. Do you as a family or a community buy from each other? 3. Do you as a family or a community refer each other and invest in each other's businesses? This past saturday, the Top 16 Youth-Owned Brands Awards in partnership Brand South Africa honoured Thebe Magugu with the Global Excellence Award. The award is given to a South African youth-owned brand for its exceptional work on global platforms. THEBE MAGUGU was the first-ever African designer and label to win the prestigious LVMH Prize in 2019. Since then, the brand has been pushing boundaries. In 2022, Thebe Magugu partnered with Adidas to produce the brands' first-ever African Heritage inspired collection. Also in 2022, Dior teamed up with Thebe Magugu for an exclusive collection supporting the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project. This year, Thebe Magugu's dress was acquired by the prestigious Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, where it will be preserved as an example of 'outstanding contemporary design.
