🔦 Spotlight on COVAX 🔦 The end of 2023 marked the conclusion #COVAX. Since COVID-19 was declared a global pandemic in March 2020, COVAX has delivered nearly two billion vaccine doses to 146 lower-income countries. This unprecedented effort is estimated to have saved 2.7 million lives. The COVAX Advance Market Commitment (AMC) pooled donor funding to cover the cost of COVID-19 vaccines in 92 of the world’s lowest-income countries. By the end of COVAX, coverage in these countries stood at 57%, close to the global average of 67%. We were pleased to provide a $100m guarantee to COVAX to help it flex to countries' needs. At a time of uncertainty, innovative finance was able to step up to support COVAX to meet projected demand from countries. Vaccines and delivery support by Gavi will continue throughout 2024 and 2025 as the world continues to advance efforts to achieve greater vaccine equity. Congratulations to the COVAX core partners: 👏 CEPI (Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations) 👏 Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance 👏 UNICEF 👏 World Health Organization. Very proud that new Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance funding will help the Democratic Republic of the Congo to reduce the number of #zerodosechildren by 35% by 2025. Important step towards ensuring no child is forced to go without lifesaving vaccines in the country: Over the course of the next two years, US$ 59.7 million through Gavi’s Equity Accelerator Fund will be channelled towards reaching children across the 11 provinces that collectively account for 74% of the country's #zerodosechildren. Agree with Thabani Maphosa that “with innovation and targeted support, we can reach #zerodosechildren and ensure that the most marginalized communities are no longer left behind.” #VaccinesWork #globalhealth

Exciting news from, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance! Just last Friday, their ambitious 2030 #strategy got approved, promising a future where even more children are protected from preventable diseases. This marks a significant milestone in #globalhealth equity. Over the years, Gavi has made tremendous strides, reaching over 950 million children with life-saving #vaccines and preventing an estimated 16.2 million future deaths. Here are a few of their remarkable achievements: 🔹 Supporting 55 lower-income countries to introduce new vaccines against deadly diseases like #HPV and #rotavirus. 🔹 Pioneering innovative financing mechanisms like the Advance Market Commitment (AMC), ensuring access to life-saving vaccines for millions. 🔹 Playing a crucial role in the COVID-19 response, delivering over 1.9 billion doses to 92 countries. Now, their focus is expanding to include new vaccines for diseases like #meningitis, #Ebola, and #lassafever, which disproportionately affect African countries. Gavi is also investing in #vaccinemanufacturing capacity in #Africa, contributing to the continent's growing vaccine sovereignty. As the program manager of the African Vaccine Academy, I have a front-row seat to the incredible progress happening in #vaccinedevelopment and delivery across the continent. I'm more determined than ever to contribute to this future of vaccine access and equity being created across Africa. Olutoun S. I am delighted to announce the publication of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance flagship publication, the 2022 Annual Progress Report (APR). Read more: https://bit.ly/3ZxoAf6 The key takeaways from the report include: ✅ Basic childhood immunisation rebounded in 2022 in Gavi-supported countries, where the percentage of children receiving all three doses of diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (DTP3) rose 3 percentage points to 81%. ➡️ While moving in the right direction, routine immunisation coverage in Gavi implementing countries remains 2 percentage points lower than in 2019. Similarly, the number of zero-dose children, while dropping to 10.2 million in 2022, is still higher than the 9 million children in 2019. ✅ Lower-income countries collectively contributed US$ 162 million to co-finance Gavi-supported vaccines, the highest amount in Gavi’s history. Despite a period of economic turmoil, all countries met their 2022 co-financing obligations (except three waivers for humanitarian crises). The report showcases this year of recovery with vibrancy. Featuring a curated selection of content from our global network of photographers and #VaccinesWork writers, the report is a visual testament to Gavi’s reach and impact. Each team at Gavi has contributed to this display of how we are tracking against our core strategic goals. In particular, I would like to acknowledge the extraordinary efforts of Amanda Tschopp and Susann Kongstad, who diligently led the creation of the report, with the expertise of colleagues Dan Hogan, Taylor Holroyd and Todi Mengistu to name just a few.

Vaccine Group Gavi Seeks $9 Billion To Immunise World's Poorest Children The global vaccine organisation Gavi wants $9 billion from governments and foundations to fund immunisation efforts in the world’s poorest countries over five years. Gavi helps low-income countries buy vaccines to protect against killer diseases. Around one billion children have been immunised as a result of Gavi’s work since 2020. The amount was finalised at a meeting in Paris, where donors also began announcing commitments for the organisation's plan for 2026-2030. Gavi said it had already raised $2.4 billion of the total with months more fundraising to go, including $1.58 billion from the United States. A separately funded $1.2 billion scheme to boost vaccine production in Africa, the African Vaccine Manufacturing Accelerator, also launched. #vaccines #healthcare #Gabi #global #Africa https://lnkd.in/eTPMaiV6

International Vaccine Institute (IVI) is to Open it’s Africa Regional Office in H/Q in Kigali -Rwanda . https://lnkd.in/eSd39YAk Developing and delivering safe, effective, and affordable vaccines is a critical endeavor for global health. Ensuring equitable access to vaccines, especially in developing countries like those in Sub-Saharan Africa, requires concerted efforts from the international community. One strategic approach which stands out for me is to enhance vaccine accessibility and effectiveness by addressing Infrastructure Gaps: Like Investing in cold chain infrastructure to maintain vaccine quality during transportation and storage. Strengthen healthcare systems to ensure efficient vaccine delivery and administration. Looking forward to the exciting great shift at continental horizon.Africa CDC World Health Organization Ministry of Health Rwanda #globelhealth #vaccineswork #immunization

Courageous Girls Women and Children Initiative - CGWCI is among the Civil Society Organizations- CSOs privilege to be selected to engage stakeholders and create awareness on the forthcoming 2nd phase of the immunization against the Human papillomavirus (HPV) which is the major cause of cervical cancer . In Nigeria, cervical cancer is the third most common cancer and the second most frequent cause of cancer deaths among women aged between 15 and 44 years. Recent discovery shows that 12,075 new cases and nearly 8,000 deaths have been recorded .It's sad to lose about 8000 Nigerian women yearly from a disease that is preventable We are very excited to work with the Johns Hopkins International Vaccine Access Centre (IVAC), along with its in-country partner, Direct Consulting and Logistics (DCL) Nigeria, in collaboration with Women Advocates for Vaccine Access (WAVA) and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), on the introduction of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine into Nigeria’s EPI schedule. 16 States including Delta state which Courageous Girls Women and Children Initiative represent were successfully integrated into the 2nd phase of the project this year 2024. A total number of more than 100 Civil Society Organizations have been trained and 36 selected and equipped to carry out this intervention during a 4 day training exercise which was held on the 20th - 23rd March 2024 .The training was implemented by IVAC and DCL, in collaboration with NPHCDA and WAVA, through a Gavi grant Courageous Girls Women and Children Initiative-CGWCI is thankful for the privilege to join in the fight to eliminate cervical cancer, the second most common cause of cancer-related death after breast cancer We also appreciate the funders and partners for their efforts and commitments in improving public health in Nigeria. Recently, @Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance met to finalize their strategy for 2026-2030. I found it interesting learning about their approach to strengthening #HealthSystems, supporting #Innovation, and advancing #Immunization efforts. Here are some interesting takeaways from the article: o Gavi’s strategy should be ambitious in building #Resilient health systems and support new vaccine introductions. o While being ambitious is important, being strategic ensures certain initiatives are still being prioritized. o The #Zero dose goal is still an important goal. o Creating a more holistic eligibility criteria can help with understanding each country’s respective challenges. These recommendations give insight into how organizations can strategize to effect change that will help many #LMICs: https://ow.ly/hnOs30sBHhn. #GlobalHealth #GlobalDevelopment
