As we approach International Women’s Day this Friday, Schibsted is proud to spotlight the journeys and insights of our incredible employees. Throughout this week, we will introduce you to team members who will share their personal experiences connected to equality and their actions to create a more inclusive world. Kicking off the week is Marion Løken, an Engineering and Product Manager at Schibsted who passionately works towards a more inclusive tech industry 🦸♀️ Marion’s tech journey began in France, where she faced challenges as a woman in the field. After relocating to Norway, she expanded her professional horizons and adopted the Nordic work-life balance philosophy, which she’s a fan of. With over a decade in various leadership roles, Marion now plays a pivotal role in enhancing Schibsted’s mobility marketplace, striving to make it accessible and user-friendly for everyone, especially for women. Marion highlights two of her key learnings: 🔸 Female leadership traits are hot: “Leadership has evolved beyond the traditional, one-size-fits-all model, once dominated by charismatic men. Today, I embrace the shift towards authenticity and empathy. Being true to myself has not only been liberating but also amplifies my ability to lead.” 🔸 Diversity alone does not equate to success: “Diversity within teams is essential for sparking innovation, but real success stems from inclusivity. I often get questions similar to the first image "What is Women TechMakers?, What do you do there?, How can I be a part of it? and so on! Google’s Women Techmakers program provides visibility, community, and resources for women in technology. They are building a world where all women can thrive in tech. Basically, it's an opportunity for women to showcase themselves and be confident enough to be part of technology world. One can either be an Ambassador or a member with Women TechMakers. But to be an Ambassador, you obviously need to be a member and acquaintance the culture. It's originally about a helping hand to the next women and grow together. Membership empowers women in their careers by providing access to curated resources and events, as well as information and tools from Google, our partners, and the global tech ecosystem. Women Techmakers Ambassadors are leaders around the world who are passionate about empowering their communities through organizing events, public speaking, creating content, and mentoring. Also, Women Developers Academy is an opportunity where mentor guides you with all of this to be a step close for an Ambassador. Women who are already involved might know all this but for the newbie, For any community in general, there is an annual event or the target occassion always. You can't directly jump over it but can start with the monthly meetups or city meetups to get the perspective. You will eventually learn and know everything if you are curious enough! Communication/Showcasing is a very big factor that leads you to better and higher places. If you are already an experienced person, you can reachout to regional communities to share your expertise. Did you know that Women in Tech are not just a demographic — they are a force that leads to increased innovation and revenue? Diverse perspectives are a proven catalyst for creativity, and women offer distinct insights that can revolutionize industries. Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending an empowering event organized by Unicorns Lithuania x Meta. It was a gathering of minds, with strong and inspiring figures like Rita Sakus, Ana Maria, and others. We delved into pressing matters, particularly the underrepresentation of women in tech leadership or in other words in the "decision-making room." The discussion unearthed a profound truth: confidence, or often the lack of it, plays a pivotal role. This event was a mirror reflecting my journey in pursuing careers often labeled as "masculine." It's undeniable — I've had moments where I had to prove my skills. Even now, occasional doubts come in, questioning my ideas, fearing the consequences of a wrong decision, or wondering if my new team will trust in my vision. But here’s is reality: many women fight these internal battles, feeling isolated in their insecurities. The reality, however, is that many of us share this struggle with confidence, and don't even try to apply to the wanted position or start their own business. So here’s what I took away from the event, and what I’d like to share: To the ladies: It's okay to feel scared. Do it or say it anyway. Your ideas might be the next big thing, and remember, you were hired for a reason. To everyone: Share your stories and emotions. There's strength in vulnerability. Learn from each other and build a community of support. And to the gents: If there's a woman on your team, be a champion for her growth. Help her shine and provide opportunities for her to excel. This isn't just about gender; it's about unlocking the full potential of every individual in the tech industry. Let's work together to create an environment where every voice is heard, every idea is considered, and everyone can thrive. #womenintech #diversityintech #leadership
