You’re right in every single point here pal! 👏🏻👌🏻 I have one issue though, you’re actively telling them by not working with you you’re going to target their business. Now whilst this is 100% true and you’d take staff from them anyway, using that threat is also why the people are being rude to you/us and not wanting to work with you/ us. You’ve kinda confirmed all their thoughts for why they don’t like you/ us and what we do.🤷🏼♂️ Are they assholes? YES! But we have to be the change that we want in our industry.
I read this and thought wow are we still cold calling in 2024 👀
Rudeness is never needed. Although I have declined a lot of introduction calls as we just aren’t using agencies at the monent. But as we all know, the situation will eventually change once the economy picks up (and I can’t wait to work with agencies again - I have two on speed dial). On our side we remember the agencies who totally ghosted us, even after a one to one briefing call (so not an agency call), when we needed them. This was 2+ years ago. I have some of these same agency recruiters now contact me about recruiter jobs (there are none in experienced hire).
Can I play devil's advocate just for a moment? Appreciate the sentiment but on the very few occasions I've been hiring on behalf of my company/client, I've posted a direct job ad / plea on LinkedIn etc. and been inundated almost immediately with agency calls - I'm talking 30, 40+ within hours. The example I'm thinking of - we were open to agencies, but at the same time on the 34th call I was getting a bit bloody tetchy.
Bloody well said 👏 👏 there really is no need for this kind of behaviour! I think people forget, that a Recruiter NEVER forgets!! 😂
Quite often they are just busy, they can be short on the phone because you are interrupting them with a sales call. Some of my best Clients now didn't want to know me at the start. Add value as early on as possible on the call and they will listen
These people made a choice on that day. All choices have consequences 😕
"Politeness goes a long way.
Manners cost nothing. Outbound sales people - they're only doing their job. Putting some food on the table...

1moAt what point would you consider a company "off limits" for headhunting Ollie? I get it if you have an active client that you are recruiting for that you may well not approach staff. Take the company in question, what if they were polite, talked to you but did not work with you at that time, would you not consider approaching people working for them if you had a suitable role? 2nd, what if you had an active client and one of their staff approached you looking to move on, would you work with them or decline?
