OIA's intern program is well underway this summer! We invited interns to our office this week for an opportunity to learn more about our association, insurance coverages, and to hear from a panel of OIA staff about their career paths. Most of the panel "stumbled into insurance and never looked back" – sound familiar? Students also visited the Ohio Statehouse and the Ohio Department of Insurance while they were in town! They had the pleasure of meeting with Director Judi French of ODI and State Rep. Brian Lampton, as well as Consumer Services, Fraud & Enforcement, and Licensing divisions. It was a jampacked trip with a lot of valuable learnings for the students! Special thanks to Todd Walker for helping us organize this fun day and to Nick Johnson for leading the day's activities. We extend our deepest gratitude to Judge Dan Hawkins and Judge Megan Shanahan for speaking to our members last week. We appreciate their judicial philosophy of restraint, deference to the legislature on policy decisions, ensuring legal opinions are grounded in the letter of the law, and upholding Ohio's Constitution. Their commitment to these principles is vital for the fair and balanced administration of justice and for maintaining a stable and predictable legal environment in our state. We encourage all OIA members to learn more about Judge Hawkins and Shanahan's judicial record and philosophy. Ohio needs judicial candidates who prioritize the philosophy of judicial restraint in our legal system. We do not want to go back to the days when activist judges extended commercial UM/UIM coverage to employees when they were not at work and to their resident family members a la Scott-Pontzer.
