We extend our deepest gratitude to Judge Dan Hawkins and Judge Megan Shanahan for speaking to our members last week. We appreciate their judicial philosophy of restraint, deference to the legislature on policy decisions, ensuring legal opinions are grounded in the letter of the law, and upholding Ohio's Constitution. Their commitment to these principles is vital for the fair and balanced administration of justice and for maintaining a stable and predictable legal environment in our state. We encourage all OIA members to learn more about Judge Hawkins and Shanahan's judicial record and philosophy. Ohio needs judicial candidates who prioritize the philosophy of judicial restraint in our legal system. We do not want to go back to the days when activist judges extended commercial UM/UIM coverage to employees when they were not at work and to their resident family members a la Scott-Pontzer.
