This week is a great time to take your children to visit a park that honors the fortitude and determination of so many who did not back down from ensuring the civil and human rights that were signed into law on this day in 1964. Give your children the gift of play and learning!

Happy Juneteenth! "On June 19, 1865, Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas with the news that the more than 250,000 enslaved Black people in the state were free. This day came to be known as Juneteenth, now officially a federal holiday. Juneteenth is a time to celebrate, gather as a family, reflect on the past and look to the future." PRIDE is an annual celebration of the LGBTQ+ community, promoting respect, inclusion, and dignity for all. In a youth and family care organization like NYAP, celebrating PRIDE is important because it sends a powerful message of acceptance, love, and support to LGBTQ+ youth. It creates a safe and supportive environment where they can thrive and be proud of who they are. By celebrating PRIDE, NYAP fosters a sense of belonging, alleviates feelings of isolation, and builds a strong support network. It also educates team members and youth about LGBTQ+ issues, ensuring culturally competent care and promoting understanding and empathy. By fostering this positive development with the young individuals in care, we can contribute to a higher quality of life and acceptance within all communities.
