A Bipartisan Senate passed a comprehensive national security supplemental. with an overwhelming bipartisan. Here's a summary of what the $95.34 billion national security supplemental package includes: - $60.06 billion to support Ukraine as it fights back against Putin’s bloody invasion and protects its people and sovereignty. - $14.1 billion in security assistance for Israel. - $2.44 billion to support operations in the U.S. Central Command and address combat expenditures related to conflict in the Red Sea. - $9.15 billion in humanitarian assistance to provide food, water, shelter, medical care, and other essential services to civilians in Gaza and the West Bank, Ukraine, and other populations caught in conflict zones across the globe. - $4.83 billion to support key regional partners in the Indo-Pacific and deter aggression by the Chinese government. - $481 million to continue support for Ukrainians displaced by Putin’s war of aggression. - $400 million for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program to help nonprofits and places of worship make security enhancements. - The Fentanyl Eradication and Narcotics Deterrence (FEND) Off Fentanyl Act.

The best way to get out of a hole is to stop digging... the government's recently released Defence policy 'Our North Strong and Free' will not fix all the issues that have been identified with our armed forces, but the problems have been acknowledged, the digging has stopped and now the hard work starts. The Defence Minister, Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces cannot however do this alone. To address our military's personnel and material readiness challenges will require a whole of Government approach and the support of our major political parties and their leaders, the media, academia, defence industry and the wider business community. Hopefully Canadians right across the country also take a greater interest and find ways to show their support and thanks for the amazing sailors, soldiers, aviators and special forces operators and their families who continue to serve with distinction in very difficult circumstances at home and abroad. #canadianarmedforces #nationalsecurity #nationaldefence #globalaffairs #NATO

Tensions between China and the Philippines have sharply escalated in recent months over territorial disputes in the South China Sea that could draw in the United States. On March 5, Chinese coast guard vessels sideswiped a Philippine patrol vessel and used water cannons against another boat carrying a Filipino admiral and provisions to Filipino service members stationed at the Philippine-occupied Second Thomas Shoal, or Ayunyin Shoal, in the South China Sea. Manila, which calls the sea the West Philippines Sea, has been pushing back against China’s so-called ten-dash line through which Beijing stakes claim to much of the sea, including land parcels. In a statement following the March 5 incident, State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller condemned Chinese actions and said the United States is obliged by commitments made in the 1951 U.S.-Philippines Mutual Defense Treaty to come to the Philippines’ defense in the event of “armed attacks on Philippine armed forces, public vessels, or aircraft — including those of its Coast Guard — anywhere in the South China Sea.” In addition to the revivified U.S.-Philippines alliance — one of many upgrades in security ties between the United States and its allies and partners in the region — new intraregional security partnerships are emerging. In January, Vietnam and the Philippines began unprecedented security cooperation between their coast guards. In September 2023, Manila and Canberra upgraded their ties to a strategic partnership. Beyond these developments, other major security actors in the region have begun engaging new security partners across the region. Seoul launched a Korea-ASEAN Regional Solidarity Initiative, which places an emphasis on defense ties as well as cooperation on strategic issues. Last year, Japan expanded aid to Bangladesh, Malaysia and Fiji, as well as the Philippines, to develop their defense capabilities. https://lnkd.in/gwBb6eaw
