#Runningthoughts vol. 6
Lately, I have two main topics for contemplation and discussion.
1) Good Deeds – The term "good deed" inherently suggests something positive, but it's important to consider the underlying motives behind it. As Joey from Friends accurately pointed out, no good deed is entirely selfless. This doesn't mean that performing a good deed is inherently bad; for instance, donating money to a charity anonymously can evoke a sense of satisfaction, knowing you've contributed to a better world.
However, what about other underlying motives? For instance, I might assume that offering people a piece of fruit would make them remember my name. Is that morally questionable?
I hope it's still more benign than the ulterior motives often depicted in prison movies.
The concept of performing good deeds also permeates into various aspects of business and acts as a motivation for some people. It's a dilemma: while they might not be earning a substantial income, they can find solace in the thought that they are making the world happier. It's challenging to draw a clear line distinguishing between genuine good deeds and self-deception aimed at soothing our conscience.
Nonetheless, I maintain my belief that sharing information with interested parties about good deals or special offers is a positive endeavor. This is why I'm pleased with the new digital products we have at Škoda X, which allow us the opportunity to do so. Our efforts in this regard have even garnered recognition from our CEO, as you can see below.
2) The Fridge – I have been living without a functioning fridge for several years. While I do own one, it remains unplugged in my kitchen. Many find it puzzling how I manage without it, often seeing this as an uneconomical choice. From my perspective, it's an economical but somewhat inconvenient decision. My rationale for not having a fridge is rooted in the fact that I spend about three nights a week away from home, and during those stays, I typically dine out twice. Given this, it seems impractical to have a sizable fridge to store a quarter stick of butter. I only purchase what I can consume in a single sitting to minimize food wastage.
An even more crucial factor contributing to my decision is the noise. I have an aversion to the low hum and occasional rattling of fridges, to the extent that I even deactivate mini-fridges in hotel rooms. Am I the only one who feels this way, or do others share my disdain for that incessant sound?

#Digitalisation can sometimes seem abstract. How about a free cup of coffee to make it more real? ☕
Škoda Auto is committed to advancing the digitalisation of our products and services in the interest of our customers. We know our core customers want their cars to offer the same everyday functionality that they’ve come to expect from other digital devices. That’s why we continue to upgrade and expand the digital power of Škoda models.
💡 That brings me back to the cup of coffee. One of the many features inside our infotainment system is the Offers app. Now we’re expanding this app to access specially discounted goods and services – with three easy clicks on the screen. More than 100 offers at petrol stations, restaurants, hotels or shops are available – in eight major European markets. For example, recent offers included a free cup of coffee at participating locations. That’ s a practical benefit that our customers might appreciate on the road. 😎
Giving mobility customers more options is the mission of our digitalisation hub Škoda X , which works closely with Škoda Auto’s core business on real-world innovations. The ‘X’ stands for Exponential, Exploration and Expansion – objectives that serve our customers by making their mobility more rewarding. Those high-level objectives translate into specific, concrete initiatives like the updated Offers app.
🤔 What would you like your infotainment system to make more convenient in your life?
