#NationalFireNews: Due to significant wildland fire activity occurring in several Geographic Areas with the potential for additional large wildland fires emerging, the #PreparednessLevel has increased to 3 (also known as PL3) as of today, June 28. Over the last several days, the National Interagency Coordination Center has had to increasingly engage with Geographic Area Coordination Centers to coordinate and fill orders for most national resource types. Further, a drawdown of resources on non-active Geographic Areas may pose a challenge if existing fuel and fire weather conditions change in those areas. #FireYear2024 More National Fire News here: https://lnkd.in/gTj5mZB 📸 Photo on Monday evening, June 24, the #McDonaldFire burns toward the Tanana River. #NationalFireNews: Currently, 59 wildfires have burned 460,007 acres in nine states. Twenty-one wildfires are being managed under full suppression strategies. Alaska continues to have the most activity where fire managers are working on 39 large fires. Nearly 9,000 wildland #FirefightingResources and support personnel are assigned to incidents nationwide. To date this #FireYear2024, 22,185 wildfires have burned 2,736,981 acres. More than 20,400 wildfires were started by people. In comparison, lightning ignited about 1,050 wildfires so far this year. The states with the most human-caused wildfires include California, Georgia, Florida, Texas and Missouri. Some ways people cause wildfires include walking away without putting out their campfire, igniting fireworks on public lands, or parking their cars over dry brush and grass. These behaviors are dangerous and unlawful. You can make a difference and reduce unwanted wildland fires by reporting careless and illegal behavior. If you see something suspicious, please call the nearest law enforcement office and help protect our wildlands. Please do your part and #RecreateResponsibly. 📸All photos from InciWeb. #NationalFireNews: July 3, 2024. Nationwide, there are 60 large wildfires and complexes, 18 of which are being managed under full suppression strategies. Wildland firefighters and support personnel in #Alaska are managing 37 incidents. Six complex incident management teams and one type 1 incident management team have been assigned or are currently mobilizing to incidents. Approximately 7,000 firefighters and support personnel are assigned including more than 160 crews, 350 engines, and multiple aviation resources. It's almost time for the biggest fireworks holiday of the year. Unsurprisingly, every year wildfires are ignited by fireworks. Fireworks have no place on public lands, and even on your own property, must be handled with serious care. Even without fireworks, outdoor celebrations during some of the hottest and driest weather of the summer often results in wildland firefighters putting in grueling overtime to catch careless accidental starts. Please do your part to prevent wildfires as you enjoy your public lands over the holiday. #RecreateResponsibly this #IndependenceDay More NFN: https://lnkd.in/gTj5mZB 📸 All photos from InciWeb. On this #NationalWildlandFirefighterDay we express our deepest gratitude to the brave men and women who answer the call to fight wildfires and the dedicated support personnel that make it all possible. This date is especially meaningful as it falls in the #WeekOfRemembrance, where we renew our commitment to wildland firefighter safety as we remember those who have fallen in the line of duty. This year we hosted the first ever #Fireline5K in support of our wildland firefighters. We thank each and every one of you who came out to support from wherever you may be. #ItTakesAllOfUs #ThankAFirefighter #NWFFD 📷 Video compilation by Sheri Ascherfeld, BLM Fire
