Bloomberg Philanthropies Announces Investment in the City of Kyiv to Advance the Digitization of Public Services. With more than 80 percent of Kyiv residents 18 years or older surveyed by the Kyiv City Council reporting symptoms consistent with post-traumatic stress disorder, and a majority stating that the war has had a significant impact on their mental well-being, the support will increase the City’s staff capacity and technical ability to build, diversify, and scale online offerings, including new mental health programs for those affected by the ongoing conflict. “Amid the most trying and tragic conditions, the City of Kyiv continues to invest in cutting-edge urban innovation,” said Michael R. Bloomberg, founder of Bloomberg Philanthropies and Bloomberg L.P. and 108th mayor of New York City. “At Bloomberg Philanthropies, we’re glad to support Kyiv as it strengthens its digital services and works to meet residents’ most urgent needs. We look forward to more cities everywhere taking inspiration from Kyiv’s resourcefulness and resolve.” The most notable local example is Kyiv Digital, a pioneering application first established by the City in 2017 that was adapted by Kyiv officials to include public safety features during wartime. From providing air raid alerts to identifying bomb shelter locations and available food and medical supplies, Kyiv Digital now reaches 2.7 million residents, 83 percent of Kyiv’s population, with 25 unique services. The new support from Bloomberg Philanthropies will enable the City of Kyiv to increase their capacity to develop more digital services, including mental health programs to help residents identify mental health challenges and connect with the necessary care. It will also create open dialogue to eliminate stigma, provide training for mental health professionals working with war-affected individuals, expand access to quality mental health centers across the city, and launch direct-to-resident supports. Today’s announcement builds on Bloomberg Philanthropies’ longstanding work to drive innovation in cities across the globe, including six digital i-teams established by the organization in Amsterdam, Bogota, Mexico City, Reykjavik, San Francisco, and Washington D.C. in 2021 and more than 20 digital i-teams incubated in European cities from Bratislava, Slovakia to Sofia, Bulgaria to Vilnius, Lithuania in 2020. With the addition of Kyiv, the Bloomberg Philanthropies i-team program has now reached 58 cities across nine countries and four continents, representing over 55 million residents.

so... we have interviews next week and I was reflecting on the difference of working @wethecurious compared to my previous roles at cancer charities and thought I would share what last week looked like for me....I got to.... - Welcome school children back for the first time in 2 years and see the excitement and wonder as they explore we the curious - Discuss a potential new exhibition celebrating a wonderful grass roots project lead by the most inspiring environmental leaders from Bristols global majority community - Start planning a new approach to funding our work around public engagement in space science - Celebrate the completion of projects which have revitalised Millennium Square and improved accessibility - Work on funding projects which will transform access to STEM learning by working with 100+ community organisations - Work on funding a terrific project with schools located in some of Bristols most disadvantaged areas supporting them to run their own environmentally themed research - Plan for new spaces in our building (not ready to share on those yet!) - Work with my team on two terrific events which will help us explore social value and open up conversations on the different ways we can work with businesses. - Learn alongside my daughters about how research has shown that our shopping baskets can actually predict what illnesses we might have! - Flex my hours so I can support the SEND needs of my daughter (flexible working is so important!) oh...and I got to walk through a tornado, put a bubble over my head, explore the solar system in our planetarium and discuss the wieght of the brain with a 6 year old... and so much more....can't wait to see who will join us! #sciencecommunication #fundraising #socialvalue We The Curious

Hello, Astro-nauts! - I need your help and support. 🤝 Today, I'm excited to share a new mission I'm embarking on to make a difference for underserved children in San Diego. 🌟 Over the last decade, I've been dedicated to supporting career professionals in our community, and now I'm taking on a new challenge to improve the lives of 1 Million kids by addressing the literacy gap that affects underserved youth nationally. And I'm starting right here in our own backyard. 🌇 Growing up, I faced my share of challenges that tested my resilience, and now I want to give back and empower the next generation to overcome obstacles and reach their full potential. 💪 Did you know that in low-income communities, there is only one book for every 300 children. This staggering disparity leaves many children without access to the educational resources they deserve. Furthermore, a 2020 study by San Diego Council on Literacy found that 60% of low-income students don't have a single book at home, highlighting the challenges disadvantaged neighborhoods face. The impact of limited literacy skills is profound, with 1 in 4 children in America growing up without learning how to read. This struggle affects their future prospects, as those who don't read proficiently by the 3rd grade are 4 times more likely to drop out of school. 🤯 That's why I'm thrilled to announce the launch of the Astro the Monster "Kits for Kids" fundraiser, in partnership with Words Alive! 🎉 Our goal is to raise funds to donate 3,000 Astro the Monster book kits to underserved youth across the region. The North West and South West regions of Cameroon have been experiencing a conflict for the past seven years, which has led to the displacement of thousands of people, including youths and children... I AM A VICTIM (Migrated to the Center Region of Cameroon in search for greener pastures. The story of Resilience and Determination kept me). The conflict has disrupted the educational system, leaving many children with LITTLE OR NO access to quality education. School infrastructures and equipments burnt to ashes and teachers on the run. Many dreams have been shattered and hope lost as there is continual conflicts steering most parts of this region. However, in some parts of conflicts area, schools have resumed though not highly effective as everyone runs from the fear of the unknown. Unavailability of basic educational resources, orientation and follow-up still keeps the children back home. While affordable parents migrate their children to other towns or Counteries to pursue their educational dreams, the underprivileged ones have no choice but to stand the shock of time. There become more vulnerable to carrying arms which ends them in their early graves. Girls have become more vulnerable to child marriage, violence, early pregnancy and infanticides. Dear Colleagues, Good Day: You will be glad to know that the Global Fund for Children (GFC) has launched the Addressing Root Causes (ARC) initiative to address the root causes of exploitation, especially those that affect children and youth in South Asia. The grassroots civil society organizations (CSOs) in this initiative are tackling complex and multifaceted issues including intergenerational poverty; harmful social and cultural norms; gender inequality; restricted access to education; and a lack of positive employment opportunities. In addition to addressing the root causes of exploitation, they are increasing the capacity of youth and communities to lead local interventions that reduce harm, as well as promoting children’s rights and empowerment. They are thrilled to be working in partnership with six organizations across Bangladesh that are applying a community-led lens to their work. They are now seeking to expand the cohort of partners in India and Nepal that are committed to community-led change for children and youth in their countries. The organizations they select will already be carrying out intersectional and holistic activities focused on child and youth wellbeing. This is a five-year initiative, with long-term grants that are renewable over the project period. Through flexible funding, partnership building, leadership training, and facilitated spaces, GFC will expand its regional network of organizations that play an active role in the reduction of exploitation and harm and in the promotion of rights and empowerment. They will support partners through a cohort-based approach that promotes learning and centers community participation and youth leadership. GFC is providing these partner organizations with long-term flexible funding, alongside a wide range of capacity development services including partnership building and leadership training. I joined UNICEF about six months ago, and it's been quite a whirlwind since then. You may have noticed my absence from social media, but rest assured, it's all for a good cause—I've been fully immersed in my work. Now, let me fill you in on what I have been up to. I have been tasked with two critical responsibilities: networking and fundraising. But before diving into the details, I want to stress the importance of our mission. According to the Global Report on Assistive Technology published by UNICEF and the World Health Organization (WHO), a staggering 2.5 billion people worldwide are in need of assistive technology, with UNICEF estimating that 10 per cent of these are children. With such immense figures, you might assume we have a massive team tackling this challenge. Surprisingly, we're just a small group of seven—the self-proclaimed A-Team, short for Assistive Technology Team. Not to be confused with another legendary team with a similar name. As mentioned earlier, my focus lies on networking and fundraising. Fundraising, in particular, is crucial as it sustains our efforts and enables us to reach more children. The importance of assistive technology implementation often goes unnoticed, yet it holds the potential to drastically improve lives. Over the past six months, I have been dedicated to spearheading a fundraising campaign. Our aim is to secure the resources needed to expand our reach and provide quality assistive technology to those who need it most. And here is where you lovely people in my network come into the picture. I am seeking companies willing to join us in our mission to make assistive technology available to children worldwide. Through our campaigns and initiatives, we shed light on the challenges faced by disadvantaged children in accessing education.
